Prince's Bad Grammar

THIS IS JUST IN FUN. Y'all calm the fuck down before you get started. lol

Someone on Twitter pointed that a friend of theirs noted how Prince's Sign "O" the Times was grammatically incorrect.

The O and apostrophe - O' - is actually old English for "of the." It's not an abbreviation for "Of." It's "Of the." So 10 O'Clock is actually meant to be "10 of the clock."

So Sign O The Times, the way Prince wrote it on paper, is technically Sign Of The The Times.

It should be Sign O'Times, if he's saying, "it's a sign of the times."

The grammar Nazi jokingly "fixed" the logo.

It'd be funny if movies or whatever started doing that.

Flight O'Intruder

Hair O'Dog

Sign O'Times

Luck O'Draw

By the Light O'Moon

I don't mean to shit all over this premise, since it is kinda fun, but...

It was never an O followed by an apostrophe. It was always an O in parenthesis. Even in the liner notes.

Now,

the grammar Nazi created a cross or a sword/dagger in the logo;

'I' (Sign) + 'T' (Times)

-

Still,

according to your stated grammar rules,

the O here is still printed as "O" and not O'

-

Talking about grammar naziism.

wink

I think one or two of them actually get off on not having a sense of humour.

Perhaps it's just the phonetic spelling of the colloquially-spoken dropping of the consonant sound, like a lot of us do erry once in a while and the way Prince actually sings the lyric?

What does that have to do with Sign O The Times?

Prince invented the text message. I mean, all those text abbreviations he used are commonplace now.

People should give him a break, fans and non-fans alike. cool

Water isn't wet. To say that something is wet means that water on the surface of something can be removed. Water, in and of itself, is not wet. "Wet" is only used when water gets on something. Water splashing on water doesn't make it wet. It just more water. You wouldn't say, "Oh, that water is wet." "Wet" is an adjective used to describe something with water on it. You're welcome.

I told Housequake dude, on Twitter, that I was going to post this on the Org and watch it eat itself.

NO TROLL THREADS! NO SOLICITING FOR BOOTLEGS! Discussion is fine, so long as the bootleg is not being promoted e.g. pre-release; requests/offers to share or copy, and links to download or bootleg sites are not. Posting Prince and associated artist videos from sites such as YouTube is also not allowed. Posts of this nature will be deleted and repeat offenders will be first warned, and then banned. Troll threads, fake tracklists, and attention seeking rumor threads will be also be swiftly dealt with. These rules are strictly enforced!

The note on Twitter was just a humorour grammar Nazi thing someone did. I shared it here, but I also knew there'd be a few wackos that would try to dive too deep in a puddle of silliness.

But c'mon the whole water isn't wet because, blah blah blah, was taking the need to be right to some really unnecessary levels. Kinda dries up all the fun out of living. It's downright dead in here as it is. Does it need to be minced up more?
