COME ELEKTRA TUESDAY

music

I still can't get over how cool this song turned out to be. It took me all of 2 listens for it to become one of my all time favorite prince tunes.

Lord please let PARADE be the next SDE. pray

For now though, thank you to whomever put this one out there some years ago in such good quality bow

YES! instantly accessible, but keeps giving! And has some great drums!

This is one of those songs where after just one listen you cannot BELIEVE he kept it unreleased. So quirky, yet so easy to love. Perhaps it just didn't fit Parade, and was too personal or weird to offer aorund? So it just gathered dust and then he moved on, as usual …

The drums, though!

Romeoblu

I love it.

If he had used it on Parade it would be my favourite song on the album.

So many fantastic songs he didn't release at the time.

I too really really hope we get Parade deluxe this year.

Its the jam. Nice to hear Prince reused that breakdown synth riff in Musicology.

Make me wanna dance. Those linn drum snares are popping too...

lyrics are fun and almost like Shockadelica

She got a movie star attitude
The girl can't hide
Jean Harlow in her prime
Looka here
She got a spooky kinda half-moon
Look in her eyes
Scared a sane man out of his mind
She... put you in a trance
With the scent
Becomin’ like a dog N heat
Ow!
All the men that touch her
Came & went
1 kiss - they'r at her feet

Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

Jill Jones. He describes her car and eyes to a T. He also wanted her to go by the name Elektra.

Talk about a mandella effect, I thought this was on Purple Rain deluxe for some odd reason. The boot must have leaked around then.

one word "underrated"

By everyone, Prince included...

how this never got a release, even as a b side or a re-recording by a protege is genuinely baffling. cool

I think it was considered for Crystal Ball II at some point as I seem to remember it being one of the songs people could vote for on the computers at Paisley Park around that time?

But yeah, this song to me is a prime example of how not everything in the vault was kept in the vault for some obvious reason. There is real gold in there.

I love the track, but I think the Linn track is a bit flat and easily re-made with modern Linn samples. It doesn't have that next level shit Prince did with the drum machine. IMO.

This one became an INSTANT classic for me. I happened to hear this for the first time the same day I also heard "Coco Boys"* for the first time.

.

Two of many, many reasons I chuckle hard** whenever I read or hear "there's a reason they were unreleased"***

.

.

.

.

.

*I differentiate the outtake I first heard and the version released on SOTT Deluxe by the different spellings of "Coco/Cocoa"...I still love the "released" version--but Prince's scatting of the horn parts in "Coco Boys" is still one of my absolute favorite parts of any of his songs. And if it weren't for "Coco Boys" then I wouldn't have had the inspiration for my fictional band "ABCsandraD"****

.

**"ch" (chuckle hard) doesn't have the same ring as "lol" I realize

.

***obviously there's a reason every unreleased song is unreleased--but "it wasn't release-worthy" isn't that reason as often as some like to assume

.

**** "A Band Called Sandra Dee" abbreviated--for those of you still playing along, but perplexed. (Note that we started fictional, but have since evolved into a fictitious band. But all of the imaginary members are NATURALLY blond/blonde--none "otherwise")

"3123...that's next door to where the party be..."
