Computer Blue First Avenue

Is it me or was that performance at First Avenue about the best thing ever put on film by Prince. In 1999 I bought a bootleg VCR tape of this show and played it over and over . Still my favorite moments are Computer Blue and DMSR. What are your thoughts?

This was the Minnesota Dance charity I'm referring to.

The 1983 performance? "This song is called Computer Blue"

Phase3

It's a great performance
I especially like when the Freddie Mercury looking guy in front row is smiling when prince is playing guitar solo in front of him

Film?

So far I only saw video-sourced versions of this show.

They filmed it and a video of it is doing the rounds.
What do you think of the performance ?

Great!
Where is that 4K bluray version?

It is a debut of a lot of material.

It is a different performance from the PR tour, so that is one of the reasons we `need` this.

The idea of a world without knowledge about these songs, and then after that night, things changed...

It's kinda monumental, without using words that are too big.

I watched this performance a lot since i get a copy of it in the 90's. Really historic!

But what we need, is the 1984 First Avenue in video, i know some have it for years and this performance is really incredible!

Yep, we and other here know the rough source and that is a gem in its own right.
David Z. was on the Prince Podcast and was quite clear about the available stuff in good quality.
It is a problem with all those release that hide the good stuff behind Deluxe editions or don't release it yet. I trust this will come around and imagine that the earlier stuff wasn't ready yet.

That was an early 80's pro video camera, not film. Probably would look just only as good as the Revolution Live (Purple Rain Tour) DVD we got with Purple Rain deluxe. Remember that was as pro as it got back then with video tech and typical concert lighting.

That´s a great version of that song, and most of the other songs he played that night sounded very special, too, such as A Case Of You , Electric Intercourse and When You Were Mine.

That version of When You Were Mine is my all time favorite version of that song.

And yes, Computer Blue sounded very energetic and raw that night.

" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

His eyes during the computer Blue Performance are stunning. And nobody rocked that hat and outfit like him during DMSR. One thing is for sure, he looked horny as hell that night. If he went home with somebody after, that must've been a wild night and a wild ride.

A dual release with First Avenue 1983 & 1984?

It is definitely monumental - good choice of words. Compare PR to 1999 (both amazing albums and among his greatest) - there's almost a quantum leap between the two albums.

He knew he was on to something amazing with the whole Purple Rain thing.
