Kiss demos

Anyone know the story on this one? What's been the consensus?

I've never heard a demo that sounded so fake and yet very real at the same time. If it's real, it sounds like he was working it for a female protege, but there's something up with the vocals not matching. I maybe buy the vocals even wih the "cheese and champagne" line, less so the music.

[Reported fake demo snip - luv4u]

The short accoustic demo is also making the rounds again, which I'd like to think is indication we're really getting Parade Deluxe. There's also a longer accoustic that used to be circulating too which sounds closer to the realized version (sorry BrownMark).

Any other version of Kiss out there?

that demo is a headscratcher. in some parts it gets very close to prince's vocal delivery but in others it seems way off. and indeed, the music just drones on and on and doesn't seem to fit completely either.

anyway, pretty good fake if it is a fake lol

just watch and see this end up being real and a part of the parade sde eek

The 1 minute acoustic guitar demo is official and legit. Brownmark and David Z have both described it in separate interviews over the past 5 years when asked about the recording sessions for Kiss.

The song that you’re referring to is a pseudo cover titled “Qualified Kiss” from 1986 by a female artist named Mona Lisa. She integrated her own new lyrics with Prince’s. That YouTube video is mistitled as a Prince demo and the audio speed is much slower.

Hope that helps clear it up! ;-)

Yup, which is why I always wonder why the Apollonia 6 boot of Manic Monday always seems to get panned when the Originals release is clearly the same multitracks, just mixed differently so Prince's guide vocal is forward, yet there is so much more life to it.

Recording quality is also why I really hope some of those Vanity 6 outtakes get a proper release one day -- G-Spot rocks as-is, but I wanna hear it as intended seguing from Vibrator!

Okay, wow thank you, that solves that, right down to the speed change, because there are points where she's a damn good mimic and the production work doubling up before people were doing that was spot on until hearing this https://www.youtube.com/w...JEhga5Io8I

Strange thing is the music is off from the supposed Prince demo and of course there's someone in the comments claiming they have a Prince demo exactly like it because it's probably that wrongly labeled version.

Mona Lisa was a World Class Wreckin Cru project, so that could be Dr. Dre production.

Thanks again for sorting me out though! Accoustic version is no doubt Prince, nobody would question that one.

Yup. I think hearing Cosmic Day, 21 Guns, and other stuff in that youtube quality helps the mind play tricks.

I'm also from the generation that didn't trust ourselves that we were hearing Prince in all those protege records. haha.

The bootleg version of Manic Monday gets panned because Apollonia's vocals are borderline unbarable.

Damn. Someone reported that and my post got snipped? Sorry about that Mods.

Honestly though I checked old posts before making mine, and being able to talk about it and identify it's wrongly labeled is helpful and fun. It was presented as a question, not misrepresented.

If it's hidden, then the confusion persists instead of getting it corrected. Just a thought.

LOL! Are you sure it's not because of the terrible sound quality. I mean, Apples is no songbird but since they doubled her vocal tracks with Susannah and Jill's, it's not the worst I've ever heard.
