Prince, and his influence on how we see ourselves

Greetings to All.

I know this type of comment has probably been mentioned over and over, but I think it is worth repeating.

I am just so eternally grateful to Prince and his teachings, music, creativity, individuality and sense of self/style. I truly feel that a great part of how I see myself in the world is due to my connection to Prince's music, how he viewed himself and all he taught us.

I would love if anyone could share their own feelings here.

It would be such an awesome tribute to the human being we call Prince.

Thank you,

Peace and Be Wild

Phase3

Well prince has been my main role model since I was a kid
I took after him in a lot of things
He taught me to treat others with respect,to look forward to a life with God after this one on earth ends, taught me that we are all the same and our skin color should not matter
He is also why I am drug free

I can't imagine how screwed up I would be without prince

Phase3; that is really beautiful. Yes, Prince did teach us that we are all the same.. "champion our similarities"...something we need to focus on alot more than we our doing these days..

Thank you so much for sharing!

Happy Holidays, Happy Kwanzaa and may 2022 be a year of blessings for all!

This is a lovely sentiment. Thanks for sharing it.

I also believe this is why art is and artists are so important to society at large. A lot of art in all sorts of disciplines is treated as a commodity or as disposable but your testimony just goes to show that the work can really reach people and make society better.

I have been a fan since I was I guess 11 or 12 and first heard 1999. I think I would say Prince's influence was he taught people to be individuals and be themselves even if it means public scrutiny.

Prince taught me a lot of things. He helped me figure out who I was, and just sorta put it out there. Let the cards fall where they may. Whether it was sexuality, gender, fashion, politics, religion, social constructs, or the simplicity of a great orgasm.

I could be more specific but it's too long for here. Maybe that should be my next book.

But whatever it was, Prince made it all okay.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Same here. He really opened my eyes to a lot of other artists who then in turn got me into other artists/styles.

Also he taught me the importance of discipline, hard work, and above all loving myself.

It's cringey to say but beyond the musical stuff, Prince impacted my personality quite a bit. I picked up some of his mannerisms or facial expressions and people who don't know where it stems from are really thrown or intrigued by that. He certainly shaped my early understandings of love, racial Harmony, and painted a utopian landscape in my brain that endures.

He also taught me it's okay to smack bitches who sing for my rival's band.

Self actualization & the power of intention despite insecurities. A lot of the spiritual teachings I learned throughout the years, especially last year, Prince’ music was the genesis for all of it from the very beginning when I started listening to him at 19. Even though those themes seemed abstract to me at that age & it was hard for me to process them then, my heart somehow felt the healing power of those words & music.

I wrote a song about 15 years ago called "Twisted Up In Your Love." I sent it to my stepbrother recently. He said, "Well, you're definitely a Prince fan." LOL It's odd because it's based on the bassline of Madonna's "Express Yourself" and a lot of the production was influenced by George Michael.

So I guess he's influenced my music writing more than I realized. haha
