Prince can still hang with the so called talent that's out now if he really wanted to. I think deep down inside he does care what people think of him, even though he does not show it. Once you already done everything you ever wanted to do...you have nothing else to prove. Prince has been there done that & does not want to go back.

ConsciousContact said: The respected music critic Nelson George is on record as saying that Prince is a visionary with the way he has released his music through the internet. So who's right and who's wrong. It's your opinion. Doesn't make u right.
Well, I agree with George Nelson. He has always been a visionary with technology. One need just look at the Beautiful Experience video where Prince allows fans to download music onto their computer. But, if you ever look at press coverage of how artists use the Internet, he is NOT mentioned. Now, I respect and love Prince for his abilities and forward thinking, but he is not generally recognized for it. And, given the fact so many artists now have music clubs (my Page-a-day calendar recommended davidbowie.com), his club is not really that special. And for the record, this forum asked what we thought about this question, so of course it's my opinion. That's a given. I know it doesn't make me right, I just assumed people knew this was my opinion. Cheers, sav "Knowledge is preferable to ignorance. Better by far to embrace the hard truth than a reassuring faith. joyinrepetition said: Prince can make hits, but the only problem is that he doesn't have the backing to promote a hit song. The industry has blackballed him so that's his first strike. If he doesn't have "the big machine" pushing a hit on the radio, you'll never hear it and that's strike two. And for strike three and your out, MTV hates Prince now and he'll never have a hit as long as they control the video air waves as well as what's played on the radio.
bollocks. i can't comment about america, but he could have had a big hit with rave in the UK if he's just got off his purple arse and promoted it. the record company was right behind him (i know, because i live with someone who works there) but he failed to deliver. there's so much music out there these days that artists who aren't prepared to do the promotion just won't cut through the clutter. everyone else does it, why should prince be exempt? ----------------------------------------------------------------------

in the 90s acting like a frontin wanksta did not help much anyway... actually it seems he doesnt care about hits anymore...or not? Of course he cares! He would'nt being trying so hard if he did'nt. Prince's problem boils down to the fact that he is no longer associating with highly creative collaborators who can help input ideas that he can work with. And the biggest reason for such a situation is that Prince is way too self-centered and difficult to work with. He's not the first choice any aspiring talent would pick. Too bad... **************************************************

I think if he really really wanted to, he would go for it. I liked "Rave" but I don't think it stood a chance of having hit songs. It was good but I don't think radio would have really embraced it and they didn't. I think "Rave" was a commerical album but I don't think he thoguht he was getting any pop hits with it. I think if Prince really wanted hits, he would try the Artista experiment again only with a really hot album full of funk.
