You might be onto something with the painting being of Prince. It looks like it's from 1979, the "Prince" album look. maybe it was promo art for that album cover or liner notes?

Maybe some fan art he kept. It looks like a extreme version of his Dick Clarke appearance.

Anyway.

I want it. smile

I find it fantastic camp and actually, if it IS Prince, I even want it more !

biggrin

What's cool is the label "misc film" and all those reels down there. That's the gold. The stuff that could be scanned to HD like the Beatles stuff.

SO,

the actual answer to this threat;

YES!

...there are film rolls in the Vault

and possibly there is film footage we've never heard of,

that could be used for a (HD) documentary.

I don't think there's any "possibly" about it.

There has to be far, FAR MORE professionally recorded material in that vault than there was for "Get Back"

One thing I've always been intersted in were the aftershows where someone like Sting, Ronnie Wood or Chuck D would show up and I wonder: would the estate have to get clearance from those guest artists to do anything with that footage? I would think so.

What about Kevin Smiths movie?

Kevin Smith confirmed that he was interviewed for the upcoming Netflix docuseries and that it will feature footage he filmed during that Celebration.

I would imagine so but if anything it would be a courtesy at the minimum.

Photos and footage clips of all those were publicly released right?

Wouldn't that mean releases were signed back when they happened?

I'm forgetting if Ron Wood was in the short Lovesexy era doc.

I downloaded it, cropped it and blew it up and...I dunno if it's Prince but I think it's someone's best effort, is clearly an original painting (you can see the tacks holding the canvas to the stretcher) and it's probably supposed to be him. Maybe an early fan tried to do a painting or something and he liked whoever did it so he kept it? Some girl he liked was all "look at my art"! The hair looks like 1980 American Bandstand Prince but I guess he's missing his left hand. Both of his hands actually. And is that a red couch maybe?

The more I look at it the funnier it gets.

I wonder if whoever painted it knows that it stayed in Prince's vault all these years and that he kept it?

Artist might be able to make some bank off a cute but pretty bad painting.

This looks like Prince in the style of Rick James’ Bustin’ Out of L Seven album cover. If it’s legit, I understand why it wasn’t released.

We've all seen that stuff because of bootlegs and YT but I don't think they were ever officially released - at least by Prince or Warners. Possibly I'm wrong - I believe there was an omnibus. Someone should correct me there. And yes Ron Wood was in the Lovesexy era footage.

I saw the Lovesexy doc before there was a youtube. In fact it was on PBS in the U.S.
