The fan made version of UTCM in Colour

Thinking of seeking out the fan made version of Under the cherry moon in color.
As a big fan of this movie and that fact that seeing it in color has always been a dream of mine,I feel I should see this.
Even though it is fan filmed, this could be the closest we get to seeing it in colour
The videos on YouTube do not look that bad but i am using my cell to watch them so I'm sure watching it on a cell compared to a DVD will be a big difference
Anyone here seen this fan version??

Look 👀 like the colorized black and white films 🎥 from the 1920s-1940s! No DVD Chapters just a continuous film 🎞 sound and picture are quite nice 👍🏻 I’ve always wanted to see it in color as well good luck

It's trash!

Prince's face disappears and reappears, as does Jerome's, in the wreka stow scene. The colors are not true. We know Mary's dress at the party is purple, Prince is wearing gold in the "mirror mirror" scene, his jammies are dark pink in the phone call with Mary scene, etc. That's just a few examples.

None of that is there. It's a generalized colorization. I see it all the time on YoUTube when people try to upscale and colorize old early 19th century films.

Everything is faded color with a weird sepia tone over it.

It's not worth the effort, trust me. You'll be disappointed, and if it ever does come out in color, it won't be nearly as exciting, having gone thru this garbage.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

It was intended to be viewed in black and white, so watch it in black and white.

When films are produced in B&W post-B&W era, generally as much effort goes into the shades, as does the colours in colour films.

Colourisation doesn't give a decent result anyway. Maybe one day AI will be able to provide optimal results.

Those "colorized" versions are terrible. I saw a few minutes of this and tuned it out.
Are we so shallow that fake color is preferred over an original film?

There are rumors that the original color print exists, does not exist, was destroyed, was kept, etc.
IF it does exist, and it's ever released, it's the only "color" version that's needed.necessary 'that

Fake colorization of this interesting film is as disgusting as those creepy photoshops with an image of Prince next to a fan.

Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

I seen a clip where the Thunderbird is pink. Also the car he buys for Mary is purple. The colors are off, the flickering of changing colors is really annoying. I'd love a proper color version, but we know this may never happen. I'd watch this fan made version if it was shared, but I wouldn't pay for it.

This doesn't apply as this movie was originally filmed in color and converted to black and white for release. Unless the negatives have deteriorated or were destroyed there is a legitimate color version out there in an archive somewhere.

There is a proper (though not available), color version as the movie was originally filmed in color. It was converted to black and white for release. We'll likely never see it because it would cost bucks to digitize and almost no one cares enough to make it worth the money, but technically it exists unless the negatives were damaged/destroyed.

If P had wanted to make a colour movie, he wouldn't have made Under the Cherry Moon.

I think it looks great in color.
Maybe they pushed back Parade because they are remastering the color version?

One thing is for sure, is that UTCM will be on the Parade SDE. Michael Howe said that for SOTT SDE they tried very hard to get the movie for the boxset.

Well of that's the case then I have no problem paying $150 for under the cherry moon in color on bluray plus the remastered album and a few discs of outtakes
That's how bad I want to see it in color

Obviously it was far from perfect, but it gave a good approximation of what the real thing could look like. When you see something that's a deep red or green, it made me think how vibrant it could look in a real colour version - like the stills we know.

The film as a whole is just okay so a colorized version would give me more interest to watch it for the 4th time. Its old enough to at least have both options

This is a bit overdramatic. rolleyes

The color is a bit muted and spotty, but it's still fun to watch, IMO. Anyone expecting perfection out of a fan made product is selfish, entitled, and (at worst) delusional. If we ever do get a professional colorization of UTCM, my excitement will be in no way diminished by having seen the fan made version!

Lucky for me, I've never given twocents what you think about me. Prince could shit on a shingle and some fanatics would worship it.

No one said it should be perfect. It should be, at least, watchable. It's not.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I just watched the fan made coloration version of UTCM
I have to say it was truly something else.knowing that it was fan made,I went in watching it with low expectations.
I enjoyed the film in color and even though the color was off putting occasionally it was still watchable
LOL at prince eating "black and white" grapes. They forgot to color that but seeing the scenes overlooking the riviera were breathtaking
A few question that I doubt will get answered
How does one colorize this film? A fan had to do it, what program could they have used?
How long does the whole process take?
Was under the cherry moon all Prince's idea??

After being a fan of this film since I was a kid,I still enjoy this film the most out of all Prince's films
So grateful to see this movie in color, even though it's not professionally done,I am grateful to have seen it and I want to give a huge thank you to whoever did this colored version of the film.
