Should Prince Have a ⭐️ On the Hollywood Walk of Fame?

I know that in life he didn’t care about it or he’s have had one decades ago. But, it seems disrespectful that he’s not there while the likes of Michael Jackson, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Chaka Khan, etc., have one and, of all people, he doesn’t.

If he were to be honored, should he have it insert he name Prince or prince … or should he get two?!?

Discuss. 😬

You know these things are bought right? There's nothing honorable about those stars is just some decoration for tourists.
There isn't some member board that gets to decide who is elligable or something because every one can buy a one on there.

They cost $50,000, but you do have to be approved.

The people who don't have one but could is a pretty cool list to be on, actually. Some huge stars.

But there are cartoon characters with stars, like Woody Woodpecker. A couple of "corporate entities." A politician. Tacky.

It's tacky also when fanclubs, management, record/movie companies or even artists themselves front the money and publicity to get some useless star people walk on.

At the 2001 Celebration there was a group of fans who were trying to raise money to get Prince a star. During one of the Q&A's Prince was asked how he felt about having that thing and his reply was exactly how i think about it. He said that he didn't see the use of having one and thought it was disrespectful to have people walk all over ones name.

Right. I may be wrong...but i think that is the reason why Muhammad Ali's start is displayed on a window near the Dolby theatre. They could do the same for P.

I'm torn on this. I think he is 100% deserving of one, but also I feel that he wouldn't want it.

And, I don't really care about people walking over your name. This is an honored tradition in Hollywood. People would go out of their way to pose next to the Prince star.

Would you use his name, or the symbol?

^^^^^ THIS
Prince was offered the oppotunity and turned it down. Not only do you have to pay for it (in perpetuity) but you have to show up at the tacky ceremony.
It's a meaningless thing that could put someone's star in front of a bar or porn shop.

It's not an honor.
Basically, Prince would have been PAYING to promote a run-down area of a town.
The BIGGEST stars don't have one (Julia Roberts, Clint Eastwood) because they know it's schlock.

I believe he should have one. Frankly, it should be near the Warner building, if there are stars there. Say what you want about contracts or whatever, but it was WB who saw potential in him and signed him. They have an indelibly intertwined history.

And yes, you do have to pay for it and get okayed to have it done.

I do believe it's another way to immortalize him in history. Someone who's never heard of him, in twenty years from now, could be walking and see "PRINCE" on the sidewalk and think "Wow, someone named Prince. What did that guy do?" They'd look him up and a new fan is born.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

He's got the one on First Avenue. More meaningful than Hollywood or Vine.

He obviously didn't want one or he would have. He got pretty much every other award. Prince had set opinions of what was cool or not, which is easy to forget. We also don't know the behind the scenes stuff, like maybe WB tried to get one earlier in his career and they got turned down or something obnoxious like that, and he wasn't interested in being part of it, or maybe he just didn't want to be stuck near some people he thought were corny?

Not necessarily, and the star isn't an award.

:yeahthat:

In this case I would agree with the thought he didn’t want it (or to pay for it).

Not necessarily, and the star isn't an award.

How isn't it an award? Because you buy them? As opposed to almost every other award out there that are bought directly or indirectly?

How much is it for a Grammy? A Tony? What about an Oscar? Or let's start simple: how much is an American Music Award?

Sure, there's a level of BS with all awards. But most true awards have at least an element or pretense of genuine merit mixed in with their industry politics & commericialism.

In contrast, Walk of Fame stars don't even have a pretense of merit. They are blatant, overt cash grabs. They're literally directly purchased.

Depends on the relatives... if they still want to pay 50K or something like that for it to happen.

Money...

Warner could also pay for it. Seems like they owe him that much.

WB won't spend a dime on any promotion for Prince at this point if they don't have to.
