I believe they stayed in touch for the rest of their lives, which is why he was so crushed when she died. He had helped her financially (especially with medical bills) for years, as he did others.

I'm just gonna make a larger statement here, because it's something I've been guilty of as well:

Sometimes I think it's a de-facto thought that once someone leaves the Prince camp, that there's just hatred or whatever between them, and they never speak again. We've all heard Prince talk about not living in the past, and maybe we've projected that into friendships.

Clearly, it's not true. I'm sure there have a been a few folks who have left and there was zero communication on purpose. (Like maybe Rosie Gaines, or Carmen Electra.) But Prince and Vanity were mirrors of each other, per his words (and hers). For them to suddenly not talk at all is unreasonable and illogical based on history. Remember, it was Vanity who presented Prince and the Revolution with an award and the acknowledgement on stage was very warm and friendly.

While Wendy or Lisa may have zero interest in buddying up with Wally or Greg, I don't think Prince was just out of touch with his peoples over the years. Even Paul and Susannah (the punk of the month and the former fiance) cold called Prince during the fDeluxe project and talked with him. Paul was at Paisley Park a lot working with his brother Ricky and others.

So all that said, sure Vanity and Prince were in touch. They were friends. How could they not be? We only see what we see in magazines or on the TV. But out of that 2 minute soundbite or article, life goes on for the other 23 hours and 58 minutes. And besides, no one ever had those sort of bad words about Prince after the fact. They may have tried to distant themselves as artists to show they can do their own thing without him, but to think Prince just cut people out 24/7 across the board doesn't make sense.

I don't quite get the diss in "Dinner with Delores," though. Was that based on something way, way, way back? Because Denise was a Christian for the majority of her adult life, longer than she wasn't by the time she passed. So when was this "showing dirty movies" or offering of sex happenstance? The reference to "some kind of sin," almost hints toward her being a Christian, but maybe not if all that other stuff ensued. She did have her drug days, so maybe it was then? And why put that song out then? When just a year or two before, he was helping her via Come?

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

At what point was it decided that "Dinner With Delores" was a diss about Vanity?

Micki Free & Vanity were also hanging out and Micki was in Prince's outter camp in 1984

Many think Madonna is the inspiration for "Dinner With Delores" after comments she made about dining with Prince in The Face magazine in late 1994.

It's what I'd always heard. It did seem weird that he'd be so harsh towards her.

I'd not heard the Madonna story, but it could hold up.

Who else could it be about? Sounds too personal to be a random story.

I sorta remember something... not sure. I got the impression it was that he wasn't paying her enough or something, she left, he called quite a while after and said, "why are we fighting?" Brought her back long enough for the NPGMC era and the Rave Un2 PPV, then she left again for good.

I had tried to set up an interview with her in 2002 and she wasn't having any Prince questions. At. All.

Slut shaming? Really?

By the way, in 1996, she was likely preparing for EVITA press, having filmed the year prior, plus doing the music, and releasing Something To Remember, which followed Bedtime Stories in 1994.

If you're referring to her SEX and Erotica period, that was 2 or 3 years before Bedtime Stories.

But I wonder, just off hand, did anyone ever called Prince a skankster or similar during Dirty Mind, or the PMRC time, or at any other time? Just curious.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Haha! She was on Regis back in 1986 or somewhere around that time. Vanity got real emotional when she was talking about Prince and the thing she made him

Dwd sounds like a few bulimia references

Did anyone have a noted problem?

Like a brontasautus she was packing it in

Damm Delores pick another subject pls

And then knees
.

I read that song always as a v unsympathetic commentary on a binge and purge disorder??

Due to apollonia I am almost certain vanity and prince were in touch as Appolonia told the story of dinner with vanity and vanity stealing her film. The time periods match and apples was very much still seeing prince (as a friend anyway) from her stories. I imagine the circle was inclusive of vanity.

Plus that photo.. she looks like she was dressed by paisley park

They probably did keep in touch. Maybe they were Engaged?

They both had a lot of Scorpio major planets in their
astrology natal chart. If they knew how to avoid
bickering, they would have wed.

Capricorn and Geminis have some similar traits: calculating,
analytical, self-focused, like to be in control, artistic,
and they can display a cold persona at times.

Prince was seemingly mending some fences toward the end of his life.

For looks, energy, charisma, sex appeal . . . Vanity was his equal. Maybe that was not sustainable in the long run?
