I think it's time for folks to abandon their attempt to write as Prince did. It does not take you closer to him, and frankly, it looks silly.

but U have 2 when U post Prince lyrics, because the Prince of Paisley Park uses them N in lyrics

and make sure it's colored purple

put some respect on it

You know damn well I'm thinking of a certain someone who does this all the time. She thinks it makes her more in tune with him I guess, unlike the rest of us who couldn't possibly care as much as she does lol. Poser. I never think twice when I see it in Prince lyrics, but you are right, it was his thing and no one elses.

It was cool and unique when he was using U, 2, B and R. When he branched out into "Eye" and "UR", it was a bit too much. I feel that there might be several I'm missing.

The first time I recall seeing it myself was in the 1999 LP lyrics.
