Wasn’t too much revealing information from the interview, except confirming a real bond between Andre and Prince. The ‘Do Me, Baby’ writing doesn’t sound like it is much of an issue for Andre, although it’s good he seems to be getting credit at least on streaming services.

A discussion, or book, with Andre about the period before Controversy, with technical details on instruments such as use of drums/drum machines, guitars, and writing of songs, would be great, along with details of their relationship during this time and afterwards.

Edit: And thank you for sharing - I’m surprised there hasn’t been more comments as Andre (and the Anderson family) was a big part of Prince’s early development, both as a musician and a person. This interview leaves me wanting to hear more.

Probably because, like you said, he is factually a genuine and irrefutable part of Prince's early development and early life where it's harder for org'ers to dismiss his claims/interpretations like later collaborators/bandmates Prince met after he was already Prince the artist with multiple major label records and releases in the can.

so he's now taking some credit for Dirty Mind too?

He comes across as very sly ...the old " i don't wanna say anything BUT....." approach.

Same question as always applies to any associates taking credit....

show me your hits !

show me your awards [as in REAL awards]

show me your mind blowing songs that touched the world...literally just one!

show me your tours that were based on your OWN catalogue & not Prince's !

...you get the picture....

ehh, but, Andre Cymone had hits... another reason he's harder to dismiss than some of the others.

This song has 6 million views on YouTube, In 1987 four-weeks at #2 on the Hot 100 charts, three-weeks #1 R&B hit:

Known enough/made enough of an impact to be nominated for a Grammy and incorporated in pop culture like Terminator 2 dialogue.

Actually, he had a stream of steady songwriting work with 150 credits on discogs.com, a fair amount of moderate hits/singles, and work with A-list talent like Evelyn "Champagne" King on prominent albums.

If there is one 'associate' that I would believe over any other is would be Andre. He never talked when it was the most financially beneficial and his core communication over 40 years has always been about music.

When I've spoken to him, it has always about wellbeing and happiness. I think it's in his core. It's just a bonus when he can produce great music like 'Stone' and 'Black Man In America'.

He says annoyingly ''you know'' after every three words !

Couldn't keep up with the interview...

I struggle with most U.S. interviews, because of 'like' filling every gap.

The people on NPR are the worst. They've replaced a constant stream of "likes" with "kind of" and "sort of".
