Prince's favourite song of all time https://faroutmagazine.co...-all-time/Here's the article with the same title. Spoiler: it's A Case Of You by Joni Mitchell and the article does include An interesting quote by Joni where she says that men write dishonest songs about breakups, meaning that they blame the women. She wanted to be more honest. Could this be why Prince liked the song and played it live throughout the years? (I saw him do it in 1995 and it was beautiful.) On the other hand: Prince has plenty of songs about women who did him wrong that you could call dishonest. If you take any of this seriously, you're a bigger fool than I am. |

I once heard, somewhere, that another song that Prince absolutely adored was DRIVE by The Cars. |

Somewhere, I remember something about that, too. I wonder if he ever tried to "remake" it, meaning did he write something inspired by it; tried to one-up it.
Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking. |

Susan Rogers mentioned him liking it in a podcast where she plays a setlist of songs Prince liked. She played "A Case of You" as well. |

Which reminds me - and Cars, by Gary Numan.

That album, The Pleasure Principle, was one where Numan used zero guitars. He fed his keyboards through guitar pedals. It gave a very robotic and cold sound to it; something I can't help but think Prince had to hear and tried to use his own way, especially on something like 1999.

I think Prince was smart enough to know that he would have been unable to one-up perfection. Match it, MAYBE. One-up it? No. |
