This thread is inspired by another orger's comments on a certain thread.

My question is this: Did Prince lie about his beliefs? Did he really beleive in Uptown? Was he such a playboy? Or did he really beleive his current beleifs all along?
I know people change, but come on, that's too drastic a change, don't you think?

It's pretty universal that most people become less idealistic the longer they spend trying to realize those ideals. Or they replace those ideals with other ones.

People do change with time and everybody is influenced by personal experiences as well as other people. Sadly sometimes brainwashing also plays an important role

Prince was going after some of that Duran Duran money.

On the first album his songs were romantic if a bit hallmarkish except Soft And Wet which Chris Moon wrote the lyrics.

Then he relized he was in hole with Warners and hey, sex sells. He milked it.

If you listen 'Ronnie Talk To Russia' he has a conservative streak and he's been in the Union (AFM) since 75 so all that Utopia stuff is a marketing thing.(To me.)

I guess the other question is "Is Prince limited as a songwriter?"

It would look strange for him to go back and do the sex stuff after his Rainbow Children version of spirituality and he can't keep writing about that stuff.

I dont think he lied, i think he is just confused, he changes his mind all the time. Thats y he looks like a hypocryte(Wich he probably is, cause we all are). The thing is that i cant take his opinions serious anymore (started with the symbol shit),cause i know its just a matter of time before he change his latest opinion.
