why can't we just go back to 1984?

I mean, damn! At least back then everyone was saticfied with Prince, you didn't hear all of these "wendy & lisa made him who is" arguments, back then they were just the two chicks in his band, no one thought he was selling out, it was actually a great time to be a Prince fan, as opposed to now

The only time anyone was really sanctified was in the 70's . Even Lionel Ritchie could tell ya that. The zeitgeist and what went on pre and at the time caused folks to have to get sanctified. The eighties were bullshit and empty.

Yup as we grow we romanticize the past and remember it the way we want, to justify our current expectations.

Add that to the fact that the 80s was a decade of self serving excess to cover ugly realities... you can't keep that ugliness hidden for long, that's why the culture moved on to a more authentic expression with hip hop (before that got commodified).

We're in another time of lies... asking the same questions of old are not sufficient.

No, RD. I would have quoted your post if that was the case. I was specifically responding to the subject line.

I was just taping some news and music for a friend last night and I was watching some of the MTV interview with Prince by Kurt Loeder for the RAVE UN2 THE JOY FANTASTIC cd in 99'. Prince was talking about all the funky psychadelic music and jazz he still has in the vault. He also made the statement of going back to the time of music when he did LETS GO CRAZY.

I remember when he used to say he never wanted to go backwards in music. I was nice to hear all of this and the talk of his vaulted music.

This was on MTV1515 back in 1999.
