Jam of The Yeaar Fans and ...

How many of you all are still Fans of Jam of The Year?

And have any of you ever been able to Burn this song to CD? Because every file I found will not let you burn it to CD. Seems like P or the CD maker put something special on it, heehee. eye crysball I have know problem with doing this with other P CD's before or after JOTY. hhhmmm

Some of my cars still have CD stereo and CD players in the house. smile

Not sure about the CD problems, but Love this JAM and the TOUR was incredible. Also too underrated on the Org.

It’s probably one of my personal favourite album openers of his, in all honesty... works nicely live, too. music

I've seen some indifference about this song over the years but I've always found it to be hella funky. Plus I'm a Rosie stan so all that whoopin and hollerin made it all the mo' betta

Chorus is pretty much inspireless to me.

''OOh everybody here, This is the jam of the year''

Quite an anoying melody for me.

Also lyricaly not his best effort to open an album.

The overall beat and horn part is something coming from another song.. can't think of it right now..

The song basically is just a few simple piano chords, mediocre to me.

Compare it with other openers of his pre-1991 albums...

Not very memorable.

ChaosDisorder

It’s too plastic-sounding. It’s in dire need of live drums and some energy. The live performances of the song were so much better.

Its alright. Kindly opens up the album without doing too much damage. Right Back Here Is My Arms is the real opener in my opinion.

The one from the bootleg ''The Secret Chapter'' was even eerier, thinner, weirder maybe?

...but had something to it from what i remember.

It has the basdrum connected with a distorted no-synth sound, with high toned keys over it as the known melody...

He should've mixed both versions maybe imho.

-

Time to make my own remix take on it wink

its the start of all those terrible party over here songs he got into doing as he got older.

all those new power soul party songs for instance, they begin right here.

he loooooved doing those tracks as he got older.

partly just a reflection of what else was happening in rnb and hip hop, ie the weird sort of fixation on The Club, but for a man of his age, it was kinda silly.

no one was playing new prince in the club at this stage.

have you only tried ripping it one computer? i never had a problem ripping that cd. i have had a few random cds here and there in years past that for whatever reason a particular cd drive just didnt like the disc, but worked just fine on other drives. never figured out why, other than possibly old or cheap drives.

Give me a break. Like 40-year old Prince cant sing about the hitting the dance floor with his beautiful dancer wife. Prince was about sensuality, sex, earthly groove and funk...both cerebral and physical. DMSR! And the crowds LOVED Jam of the Year and danced with him. He wasnt some tired Dylan or Neil Young world weary observer...with faux old timey affectations that critics love...while audiences sit on their hands trying not to fall asleep.

Maaan, theres nothing wrong with doing danceable music
When you start singing about partying all night long and hitting the club and being the greatest at rocking the club and partying etc at an age when you know no one is listening to your new songs in that place its maybe time to rethink

Nothing wrong with prince himself dancing ofc

It's an age old problem though for artists who make youthful music, what to do when they're no longer young

The Real problem though is just that these songs weren't really cutting it as dance tracks

another thing is that prince didnt really do songs about dancing, or the club, or being the baddest etc until this period. when he did dance songs, or hard funk songs like DMSR, he put in a lyric that made them about something (even if it was mainly sex, or dance music sex romance lol), not just general party lyrics.
