Can't stop listening to When The Dawn Of The Morning Comes

Oh man, I had to take a break from this song when SOTT Deluxe was released.

An energetic, joyous gospel track which almost sounds like the ending to a musical. The hard pounding drums over bongos, cowbells and xylophone sounds reminicent of Good Love. Prince sings the tune in his normal vocal, and a soulful falcetto vocal follows his lead. I wonder what was his vision and inspiration while making this tune? Prince later revisited this sound with "Trust" on Batman according to Duane Tudahl. Created with Oberheim OB-8, Fairlight and Mirage, Prince also added 6 layers of vocals. Monday September 29th 1986.

What a day, what a day
When the dawn of the morning comes
All eyes were all open
To view the new rising sun
There'll be joy
And so much fun
Love for everyone
The dawn of the morning comes
Oh, what a day, what a day
When the dawn of the morning comes
Oh, what a day (what a day)
There'll be love for everyone
We will dream and color
While we look into the sun (into the sun)
Unafraid
Only blind faith (every brother)
Blind faith in the one (every sister stand)
There will be no more pain
No more shame
A never-ending glory
To his reign
Oh, what a day (what a day)
When the dawn of the morning comes

I absolutely love this song! So fun and positive. I think this would’ve been a great closer on Lovesexy. I love Positivity too but this one is a JAM

I would have probably taken this over Positivity as well...even though it is a good song too...it just kind of drags a bit in the middle.

One of the highlights of the the greatest collection of music ever released.

I always loved Trust but I prefer When The Dawn Of The Morning Comes.

I had a break for from the set but a few days ago returned to it and this song yet again knocked my socks off with it's excellence.

Thank you! This statement isn't too soon, is it? Or rather, which collection could challenge SOTT SDE Vault Tracks Vol I-III?

I like it a lot. Musically it reminds me of Trust, lyrically it is a bit reminiscent of Elephants and Flowers and maybe Everywhere except for the "truth" references in Everywhere...but both have that very uplifting, positive energy.

I think Parade or an expanded Purple Rain super deluxe could

I agree

.

the Parade -> (Dream Factory, Flesh sessions, Camille) -> SOTT is a very interconnected one.

.

a Parade deluxe would actually be more extensively connected to the project/period than many of the extra songs included on the SOTT deluxe

.

I don't think most of what is including on the SOTT deluxed should have been there. But definately should have included all the music that he produced (for others) during the SOTT era proper.

It could easily be mashed up with the rhythm guitar in “Trust”, it reminded of something but I wasn’t aware of the connection between the two until the guys in Michael Dean’s podcast juice reviewed the SDE.

Personally, I’m gravitated more & more toward Prince’ gospel music these days and I’ll eventually stop being lazy and make a playlist about that theme. Also, I’d like to say Prince is one of the most underrated vocal arrangers ever, Luther Vandross & Mariah Carey get rightfully praised for their impeccable vocal arranging, but nobody could stack harmonies like Prince. Maybe Marvin Gaye was better technically at it come to think, but Prince used more colors on his canvas. The 86-89 eras were his best when it came to vocals arranging IMO.

Ehhhm, I'm talking artists in general. Beatles, Springsteen, Stevie etc etc.

Same here, which was very strange for me considering how much I dislike most of his spiritual/gospel stuff.

Krid

The inspiration is clear: The King Shall Come When Morning Dawns

A wonderful interpretation is this:

I love Prince's When The Dawn of The Morning Comes, but wished he would have added a real gospel choir somewhere from the three minute mark onwards - as it is, the song kind of only drags on from the middle onwards
