Prince's whammy bar work underrated?

I get that some of you didn't like Prince using whammy bar on his guitar but don't you think Prince had become a master of whammy bar after a while? I for sure had miss his Princley dive bombs and angry passages that he used to create with his whammy bar when he started playing vox.And no don't even try to tellme that he used whammy bar as a replacement for his finger vibrato.Cause thats not true at all.Prince used whammy bar to create sound effects and do dive bombs.his finger vibrato was still there. In the very early 2000 he was not that great, but around 2003 and after he develouped his own style of using it.i can't even imagine Shhh without his dive bombs.my top whammy bar moments are Whole Lotta Love from Indigo Nights ,Villanova Junction from the last London AFTershow,Shhh from Hong Kong Rocks,Joy In Repetition live Ona aftershow and many other

prince really didn't need it. Most guitarists use it to camouflage the fact they can't play.

No, his whammy bar work was not overrated. In fact, it is sim-ly the worst I've ever seen. He barely used it for anything other than a stupid wiggle at the end of a phrase. When he did use it for something else, it was a really flaccid-sound divebomb.

Prince didn't use it well at all for any purpose. It sounded exceedingly lame.

Hated his playing with the Floyd Rose. He was 12 years too late by the time he started using it.

Well i think whammy bar added some freshness to his guitar playing.it inspired his playing.i love his dive bombs and those angry passages that he created as a call and response dialogs when playing with whammy bar.

I love how he could bend notes and make his guitar sing.

I don't know if I've registered the amount he used it, although his playing was never less than incredible.

Surprised at some of the responses here and am sort of wondering if we have guitar players here or not.

Will have to get back to your question here in the OP though.

Something I think Prince is very underrated is on his use of effects. Ok, most of the time he played in a traditional way, but the way he used Octave and Flanger in the 2000s was very unique. I loved the way he combined Flanger with the whammy bar to make some noise.

.

If he was having hits, I believe it would have been more talked about.

I'm surprised @FunkyStrange (aka The Captain from Peach & Black Podcast) hasn't weighed in on this tread yet. He really hates the whammy bar and was a strong critic of it in their podcasts.

For real!
As a guitarist myself I think his use was really clever. He didn't overuse it or anything. Seems strange.

It's not like we are talking about Kirk Hammet and his wah pedal or something. He doesn't even use it a huge amount from what I've heard.

Nah man haha not "pro whammy bar" just good music + cool sounds.

I think that's why the anti whammy seems so weird and arbitrary

Like... did a whammy bar beat you up in school?? haha
