I know this may be blasphemy, but generally speaking I don't think Prince was a good lyracist. Sure there are many great lyrics you can point to, but when the guy wrote well over 1,000 songs, he was bound to hit pay dirt occassionally, from luck if nothing else. But on the whole, I think he was a mediocre lyracist.

WIth that said, two songs that I believe have genuinely great lyrics are "Joy in Repetition" and "The Ballad of Dorothy Parker". Every line in both of them is poetic.

Read my post again. I'm sure you will see that it doesn't say there are only two songs with great lyrics.

My post suggested tht Prince had many songs with great lyrics, two of which were "Joy in Repetition" and "The Balad of Dorthy Parker". Those were presented as examples, not an exhaustive list.

But my point remains that, although I could name dozens of songs with great lyrics, as a percentage of his entire catologue, his great lyrcis are in the minority.
