SAMS that became First Avenue

1978-1980 Prince(and the band) were mostly touring around the US

1977 when he was performing with a band it was at like Rec centers and Disco/Dinner & Dancing clubs

It doesn't seem like Prince did a lot of performing before his WB contract

Right, how did I skip over this important one
I think I was looking for 'regular' 'any time' performances

I Am You? That's probably I'm Yours.
Also, I read that the concert was an hour long, so if they didn't go all Funkadelic and play 20 minute versions of all the songs (I hope not) then that setlist is incomplete.

If you take any of this seriously, you're a bigger fool than I am.

One thing, at least, that can be said about the second Capri show is that it featured the only known performance of “I am You”: one of a handful of songs written and demoed in late 1978 about which we know little more than the title. Uptown has described “I am You” as a “rock-oriented number” that “saw Prince moving from instrument to instrument” (Nilsen 1999 50). Unfortunately, however, this display of showmanship wasn’t enough to convince W.B. to bankroll a tour. “They felt the band wasn’t tight enough, which was true,” Fink later explained. “It was a combination of that and the fact that For You wasn’t a hit. They thought, ‘Well, it was a nice try, but let’s do another record and then get out on the road. Let’s give the band a year to develop’” (51). Husney, who had kept in touch with his contacts at the label, heard a blunter assessment: “They told me that the show was a complete disaster” (Hahn 2003 28).

.
Prince Vault
I Am You is an unreleased rock song recorded as a home recording in the second half of 1978 at Prince’s France Avenue Home Studio, Edina, Minnesota. It was performed live at Prince’s first two solo concerts, 5 January 1979 and 6 January 1979, and showcased Prince playing a number of different instruments, including drums, but the song has not been played live since. The track remains unreleased.

.

Yes, the set list is incomplete, I have never seen/read a complete set of songs, so I just list the ones that were mentioned.

No, they are 2 different songs. "I Am You" is a rock song that featrured several solos, prehaps simuar to "Sexy Dancer"? It was recorded after "For You" came out and was only preformed twice.

I wonder how he sang For You live. Did he add some instrumentation, or did the band do all of the backing vocals?
