"Hurt me"

What do you think was up with Prince, multiple times, saying "hurt me" or "come on mama, hurt me," often in a very femme/submissive tone?

Did Prince like to be dominated sexually by women?

Hoping I can get a few opinions before this thread is inevitably locked. lol HURRY!

Until I find the righteous one...

I've never heard it as feminine.
In "My Name Is Prince", it's a signal that he's tough.

BTW, if sung in falsetto, it's not feminine either.

Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

It was definitely a lyrical device but he also said it in live performances and I think it was a cue or command for the band to turn it up a notch.

Like when he says "Y'all". He's not talking to the audience. He's talking to the band.

prince def wrote many songs about being done wrong by women

not sure if that ever went so far as inviting or saying he liked being dominated or hit

he did often like saying things about letting the women take some control

whether this was actually the case IRL though, i am not sure

he seemed to be more controlling, possessive and basically the one in charge from what i have read

when he said hurt me though it was just about the band

same as 'hit me'

i mean, i doubt no one would say james brown was submissive just cos he said that lol

James Brown said "Hit me," P chose "Hurt me." I take nothing deep with either. Love them both. lol

This was an often used phrase in 1982-83. You will hear it in other songs from that era.

It was just cheeky Prince, and came from the same place as the Cloreen Bacon Skin voice he sometimes used. He's tied up in the Automatic video, but S/M in the 80's was more edgy imagery than anything. Prince had such a dominant personality but he liked the idea of assertive women or the image of being surrounded by them. There's no gossip about him being submissive, he was just being provocative.
