Half way through the Duane Tudahl book about the Parade era recordings and I've just gotta say...... It's been a great read as Parade was the album that got me, I know it's a little late as loads of tracks from this era were bolted onto the sign deluxe. Estate, STOP ! wait a minute, because if you want a long time fan, like myseft, to buy another album, you should think about what you're doing. The last deluxe, and infact, prince album I bought was the Purple rain 1. 40 odd quid I payed for everything I wanted, since that , the price and what's included has changed with each release. During reading this book, for me, I'd rather the estate get the people who worked so tirelessly with prince around this time, to construct albums. I know that the main and generally best tracks had official releases on his albums but, Susan, Peggy, Coke, Claire and Wendy, lisa, Eric etc were so involved in the recordings around this time, I think some good constructed albums could be put together. I would be interested in this more than loads of bolted on extra tracks onto an album I already own. Musically, I never stand still and would rather buy new albums by new artists, so If they want me to be interested in further releases, maybe a bit of thought. I will not be spending £150+ on an album I already own, B sides that I have from the time, just to get the bolted on collection of unreleased tracks. As someone said in the book, "not all his songs were good, even if he thought they were". Just my thoughts, what do you think?........

The estate isn't reading this. And neither are we if you don't put some paragraph breaks in there, hunty.

There's probably 10 versions of every song he recorded

yes, i would DEF prefer releases that were just the unreleased songs, not the same old albums and b sides AGAIN. but prob less money in that. so hey ho.

Not necessary. SOTT and 1999 Deluxe is still available for streaming / purchse so not a big hassle to listen to them for free. Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

No worries, and point taken regarding the paragraphs, but, not once have I ever read a post on here and thought about anyones gramma or punctuation. Guess I'm more interested about what people have to say, than how they say it. Guess I got carried away whilst I was making my point, I guess that can happen if you're writing from a point of passion. Take care

The are so many tracks on the SD editions, you can make your own new album. Just make a Playlist.

Worth reading for the Elton John foreword. I was there at the O2 when Elton joined Prince on stage and it really struck me at the time how completely star struck Elton was… now I understand why!

- exactly. - I for one, long for a Parade SDE release too. - "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

What did reading a book have to do with this?

As legacy releases it sounds like the SDE's aren't really for you given your taste in new artists and ideas of jumbling up previously unreleased material and arranging then in to new compilation albums. Did you buy 'Originals' that might be more to your liking. . Thankfully it seems like the estate are on the same page as the majority of listeners who prefer to see unreleased songs placed in context with the released albums and singles from the time period they belong to, thus fleshing out the eras to show the evolution of his sound and ideas at the time. I think the SOTT SDE especially does that really well.

You're never going to have a consensus on how we want the songs delivered, only that we want the songs - period!

If the SDEs were anything but archival in nature, I'd be mortified. I like Originals but mostly because I desperately wanted to hear release quality versions of those songs. As a document, it's horrid.
