Album reviews, post P&B Hi. What videos or podcasts do y’all listen to for album reviews now that Peach & Black is over? I started listening to the Mountains and Sea, which is decent. I like the combination of old-head fan and relative newbie is cool, and their chemistry is great. But they musical knowledge is a bit limited, with a focus almost entirely on lyrics and vocals. I try to like Podcast on Prince, but the interactions are just so stilted. They could really benefit from a host other than Michael Dean and turn him into one of the people on the board, but it’s basically his thing so that probably won’t happen. I realize he has a wealth of knowledge, but he completely dominates the conversation, and there is almost no follow up on anybody’s points or interactions between the participants. One of my favorites now is De Angela (polishedsolid) and her guests like Arthur and Nikolay. Their knowledge and interactions are great, and I appreciate her interjections of her love of the Lovesexy band. But they sometimes go a little too academic, which is to be expected since she is an academic, and therefore should be working in that lane. Also, their discussions on albums are a little too loooong, like multiple videos long. . So who else is good? And what do you think of the three I listed? "Love & honesty, peace & harmony"

I love the Moutains and the Sea team. Their lyrical deciphering is the best I've heard. THey really dig into what Prince is saying.
As for your comments on Michael Dean...are you kidding? I don't feel he dominates....in fact, just listened to his W2A review again and he repeatedly goes to Big Sexy and Antpooh for their takes. Besides that, the dude is hilarious and the chemistry between all of them is super. They make me laugh over and over...
When they describe When She Comes...Michael's under his breath description of what Prince was about...hilarious...I kept laughing. Come on...like he said, you may not like or get the humour, but don't knock it...so many of us find it super entertaining and hilarious.

None, they were the one and only worth listening to, Ive listened to everything else at least once but none of it is for me, still angry they were more or less forced out of the landscape
I tried listening to that a few times but its just offputting for so many reasons, yes the main guy dominates the conversation, the musical analysis is almost non-existent, not to mention he is an awful interviewer, cuts off the guests all the time, never follows up, it really is a painful listen
Not sure if I ever heard this one, i cant stand the academic stuff so probs not for me

[Edited 8/10/21 21:25pm] De Angela and her folks did a great series on Sign of the Times SDE. In addition to reviews of each disc, they interviewed several key people from the time. It’s definitely worth checking out, awesome stuff. But their more recent conference on Controversy and two other albums is a bit too boring for me. "Love & honesty, peace & harmony"

The Purple Music Podcast is pretty good, if you speak or understand Spanish.

If you speak French, the Violet podcast is great. Closest thing to P&B, would dare to say even better some times ColdWinterDew

The Prince Party UK Podcast is very good and they're really finding their groove now with quality musical analysis while also being very entertaining. They all know each other socially and you can tell they are actual friends so the chemistry is great. Its a good mix of a couple of people who became fans in the 80's, a couple who became fans in the 90's and one who became a fan in the 00's so you get those different perspectives coming through. One of the guys is Paddy, the guitarist from Endorphinemachine (UK based Prince tribute band) who are brilliant. Their Welcome 2 America review just came out - PPUK Podcast | Prince Party UK

I host the Purple Knights Podcast, which you can find on YouTube and iTunes. I've received harsh criticism in the past for the sound of my voice, but I have Cerebral Palsy which effects my muscles (including my facial muscles), so I can't help sounding a bit nasal and congested. https://www.youtube.com/@PurpleKnightsPodcast

Agree, it was a good listen, insightful and funny. So I listened to parts of another 3 or 4 their shows. It’s kind of hit and miss, some good and some less so. I hope they’ve hit their stride now. I also just checked out Purple Knights, very nice. . Thanks funkypixie and bluefish! "Love & honesty, peace & harmony"

. Thanks for the recommendation. I'm currently listening to the W2A episode and it is indeed excellent. I'm not active in the "French community" (Raphy & Co.), because I've always been under the (obviously incorrect) impression that, if you don't live in Paris and/or have seen Prince 74 times in 23 different countries, you will never really belong. I will definitely listen to the other episodes. . I would say Violet is more serious/in-depth than Peach & Black and, at the same time, definitely less funny. With Peach & Black, I was regularly laughing alone in my car during my commute. Peach & Black was the perfect balance between in-depth analysis and humor/entertainment. Anyway, let's not start that discussion again.
