Welcome 2 America currently at Number 3 in UK album charts Good result, kudos to Sony Legacy's marketing department.
Certainly changed days from 1999 when I strode valliantly into HMV to buy Rave. The guy actually laughed as he shouted the full album title across to his collegue at the back of shop to see if they had it. You could have lit a cigarette off my face. Cue a tiny cardboard box being produced with two or three copies in it - they hadn't even bothered to display them.

Wow, that´s a bit of a surprise to me considering that it isn´t even in the top 100 in Germany or the Netherlands. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?" |

It just beat the UK chart positions of 1999, Purple Rain, ATWIAD, Parade and Sign O The Times! . |

Thats the midweek chart , the sales would have been front loaded , i would be very surprised if its top 10 by the time the chart is released on Friday. |

That was when Tower Records in Piccadilly Circus did a giveaway with the album the week of its release, thus rendering opening week sales ineligible for the charts. |

What was the giveaway? I dont recall hearing of this!, and how would tower doing a giveaway make it ineligible as stores often do that and sounds mighty unfair to Prince if ONE store giving something away with the album denied him chart placing!!!! he might have better luck if he was drummin with his Dick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

sadly likely to be true.
all the preorders will have been taken into account.. and now its down to streaming numbers for the rest of the week + any physical purchases that weren't pre-orders.
it would be nice if it held on to a Top10 place by Friday but I suspect that's not going to happen. |

Charted at #5 in the official UK chart. That sounds excellent to me. |

It's pretty great, I agree. It will probably be out of the top 100 in three weeks' time, but it's a strong start.

#5 is better than I thought.
I really like this album. I know we're all used to Ps idiosyncrasies.. but why did he leave this one on the shelf? |

OK then.....good news.
I googled " Dutch album charts" and could not see it in the top 100. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?" |

They did some nice promo work in Berlin, renaming the Prinzenstr. to Prince-Str. and lots of posters everywhere. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?" |

It’s no 2 in the vinyl chart in Sweden, so that’s at least some consolation, even if the low ranking in the overall chart here is hard to understand. |
