I can't really comment on her music because like I said, I'm not familiar with it. But she just looks braindead. Or maybe "bored" would be a nicer way of putting it. It's a weird gimmick to have. Like, if she can't get excited for her own music then why should I?

You're also like twice her age. Maybe it's a generational thing.

She's only 15?

Would have thought she was older. But fuck me swinging, I am almost twice her age! That's kind of depressing...

Come on....since Prince passed, they were only releasing 80s stuff, and they did a great job with them. But I am happy finally there is ´new´ music from Prince

Not me. I became bored with a lot of his new stuff while he was still alive. It was OK but nothing compared to his 1980s stuff. Now that he's gone, give me the stuff that I've been wanting for over 30 years that he wouldn't have released himself if he were still alive. He wore those horns, and jazzy Vegas style music completely out for over two decades so getting something from a more recent era doesn't feel like I'm getting something new because he wore that style out. Getting the 1980 stuff that I've never heard before feels like I'm finally getting what I've been wanting for decades even while he was still alive.

Hits Daily Double's mid-week building chart has Welcome 2 America at number 5 with an estimated 54,000 copies (up from the original 45-50k estimate and only 700 copies behind Doja Cat at number 4). This should guarantee a top ten debut on the Billboard 200 with top 5 looking good. Sony and the estate must be very pleased with these numbers!

These are very good numbers, better than Originals first week of release.
But Originals had a good 4th week because the deluxe version was delayed.

It s also comparable to AOA first week (55k IIRC), which was released 7 years ago, when overall sales of the music market were better than now.

And Plectrum Electrum did only 21k copies.
Both albums made the official top ten. That was before the streaming added to the charts.

Doing 50k in 2021 for Prince is a grezt achievement.
I m not fan of the project, but we have to agre it was a great choice commercially, despite the negative complains from fans- including myself.

Last but not least, don't forget AOA cost only a regular CD/vinyl price ( the vinyl was released months after).
W2A best selling version of W2A, the deluxe version, has twice the album in it.

So that's in fact probably like 80.000 copies sold of the album.

Maybe Prince missed a hit in 2011...

Strange that the Deluxe version doesnt count twice (LP and CD) for chart purposes. If these numbers hold up I cud see a Black is the New Black release next year. Yes!

Probably because they didn't have an option to buy the deluxe with out the CD (for a cheaper price). That's their reason for any artist that wants to bundle a live ticket performance with a CD, it will only count if there are 2 prices one with a cd (costing more) and one without.

I am actually twice Billie Eilish's age.

I didn't get it at first but then I caught myself listening to Young Marble Giants' 1980 album and realizing it was a similar gimmick, which was "music for introverts".

it will probably hit in the top 5 but top 10 for sure, if they move 50-60 thousand copies that's a great thing and strong first week which is what it's all about, do realize that there will be a huge drop week 2 which is expected because there is not much to maintain the sales once the base has it, my guess is week two it'll be around 10-15 thousand in sales.

Have fans really absorbed how momentous the success of this album is? A dead artist is competing in the pop market with a buried full concept album release...one that is politically poignant. Has there ever been a precedent in music history?

Queen, MJ, 2PAc...
Queen's Made in Heaven sold 10 millions worldwide, their best selling studio album.

And buying an album that was recorded a decade ago that contains Curtis Mayfield styled songs that sound like they were made 40 years prior to that recording is living in the present? Lay off the kool-aid honey. If you're free to wear your bell bottoms, I'm free to wear my parachute pants.

Queen's album was put together by the REMAINING members of the band. They continued working on the album following Mercury's death. MJ and Tupac's posthumous releases were not cohesive albums but cobbled together tracks. No comparisons.

Welcome 2 America officially debuts at number 4 on the Billboard 200 with 55,000 units. It's his highest charting 'new' studio album since Lotsflow3r peaked at number 2 in 2009 (the article erroneously says Lotusflow3r peaked at no. 3), although The Very Best Of Prince went to number one in 2016 following his death. W2A is his milestone 20th top ten album, and first visit to the region since Purple Rain re-entered at no. 4 in 2017 after the release of its deluxe edition.

Like I said, AOA did #22 with 15.000 the 2!nd week.
But that was when Billboard only counted sales, not streaming.
And AOA had some promotion from Prince the first week. That was minimal, but now, there s not even a music video made from the estate.

Not even a lyric video or archivals.

It seemed very easy with W2A though...
