Nice to hear a mix of tracks but there’s always gonna be something else you want to hear with a Prince concert. Personally I’d be quite happy not to see LGC or Purple Rain in a show if it meant hearing something like ICNTTPOYM or Endorphinemachine. But it’s Prince live and always worth watching. I’d have loved ICNTTPOYM. But after a few non Prince performances, Let’s Go Crazy felt like a second opener to me. I thought I could do without Kiss as never loved it live as always felt like he was going through the motions. However I LOVED it here. Same with his energy on Little Red Corvette. I think as a fan/fambase we can be incredibly demanding and critical. And when I saw the setlist I wasn’t impressed. But having just finished the Blu-ray, I nearly forgot he was gone for 2hours and that was worth the price of the special edition alone. Really enjoyed this recording.

Or I could wait for an audio rip, and download that for free. I understand your point of view but Blu-ray support is relevant for this recent digital source (2011) and Blu-ray is a mainstream support now(10 years old). You can get a new blu ray player for, what, 50 BUCKS(20 Bucks used) ? Of course, if you have an old Tv(not full HD), Blu ray is irrelevant. But you Will notice a real jump quality from DVD. Nearly all tv digital broadcating are minimum Full HD. But yeah, in some countries, like France, DVD are still à majority... Because mostly People are not movie lovers and use dvd player for children cartoons lol VHS owners were angry too 20 years ago [Edited 8/6/21 17:13pm]

I go by the show not setlist. It's a great show. That cool song was definitely an highlight of tour. I like the may 14th show best. But this show is impressive on Blu-ray. Maybe more so than even the sott movie Blu-ray by turbine. Both brilliant releases.

Apart from the openi g set, not sure why everyone loves the may 14th show, with mike phillips ruining half of it.

This is like saying Eric Leeds ruins Parade tour etc. Mike Philips is great. No one digs on parade tour . So I don't understand digs at W2A. Prince barely plays guitar on parade tour. It still good. Same with this show. I think alot on here are nitpicking. W2A, gold xenonphobia2002 definitely rank along side best shows including 80s [Edited 8/7/21 8:50am]

I just watched it again this morning, my 3rd time, and i think its a great show. Ofcourse could do with even more of Prince himself but love some of the jamming on the songs, even the covers. Just to have this show in this quality and this clear is a joy on its own. Prince wasnt just phoneing it in on these shows. Loving it but there is a sadness cloaked over these releases also for me.

I feel ya--haven't bought any new releases but I have a huge Prince collection already (Cds and DVDs) and I can only bring myself to listen once in a blue moon... Still too raw... "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Must admit when I saw the set list I wasn't exactly jumping. Then I played it..& again..& again ....it's frickin brilliant. When you read 'play that funky music' & hollywood swingin' your reaction is meh...however on the DVD his versions are FIERCE!
The start of the show is glorius too, likewise his crowd interactions.
Just so nice to see P post-2010 on an officially released DVD.
Pure BS that it's not released seperately though.

FINALLY. FINALLY. FINALLY. A full Prince concert (not a concert film) on Bluray and it looked and sounded incredible. Been waiting for this quality on disk for years.
I would buy as many Prince concerts on Blu-ray as the estate will release.

I still treasure the last time I saw Prince in 2014 at a small club (for the first time!). It was so exciting. I had just been to see Prince at a bigger venue a week or so before in another city and then he suddenly announced a local concert (on twitter, if I recall) and I happened to be on-line at the time; sold out in minutes! He did two back-to-back shows that night and I got tickets to both for my son and I. What a thrill! And at the end of the second show, most people left but some of us knew better... We waited. Prince didn't perform again but he had 3rd Eye girls debut some new recorded songs, including "Breakdown." I remember Prince peeking from behind the curtain to see what people's reactions were. He really cared about how his fans responded to the music. No doubt in my mind. I'm glad I have those two performances as my last live memories of him--he was on his game that night for two back-to-back shows benefiting a local charity. Full guitar, keyboards, and dancing! I finally got to hear "Something in the Water" for the first time live! Treasured memories. The Fillmore poster from that night has a place of honor on my wall. And, apparently, it was the only concerts not bootlegged that year... "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Same here, didn't hesitate to pre-order the SDE of SOTT. Just not going to waste money on anything with vinyl in it. The vinyl sounds about 100 times better than the CD, but do as you wish.

The vinyl uses the same master as the CD. The only difference between the two would be due to equipment. Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.

I dont want to go into the last months of his life, but just barely a couple of years before he looked in great health and energy. I saw the early manchester show at the academy. And like you said, was in great form and performed for about 2 and half hours. Shocking to think how quickly he went down hill. Saying that though, right up to his death he was getting rave reviews for the Piano and mic shows. Just so upsetting what happened

Thanks to the advice and images shared last week of the Japanese Edition, I ordered it and it arrived today! Beautiful digi pack with obi strip and the CD/BluRay The BluRay is region free, had a few tracks on already this afternoon and it looks and sounds great. Full price, including postage/customs was 57 Euro from Amazon jp. Great deal for those of us who do not have a need for the vinyl deluxe set to own the BluRay. Two weeks in I rate the album highly. The flow is sublime, the groove on material like 'Same Page', 'Rin Tin Tin', 'One Day..' quite irresistible.

According to Matthieu Bitton, the estate chosed that one particular concert, because it didn't have the sampler set (i.e. TMBGITW lawsuit).
In fact, this prevents them from releasing anything else from that period, that was professionally filmed. Else, we would have had another longer live, or two different shows. [Edited 8/16/21 20:51pm]

[Edited 8/16/21 20:51pm] There are several other American W2A gigs that don't include the sampler set, notably Madison Square Garden. Prince did not always play 'TMBGITW' as part of the sampler set during the W2A tour either, so that still leaves ample choices for other W2A concerts to be chosen.

[Edited 8/17/21 3:18am] The excellent Schkopi podcast, which is the best thing about Prince ever made. If you re a fan and not aware about it, you are really missing something big! Google podcast : Prince Violet The one about W2A : "Welcome 2 America : le monde selon Prince" Bitton talks at about 1:10 to 1:30 ( where did they get the CD-Rs, how they chose the tracklist, the cover artwork, why this specific show, why this memorabilia, etc.) [Edited 8/17/21 4:46am]

Marco81 said: I'm assuming that's all in French...? From what I heard ( I m only half through it) yes. There s alao Morris Hayes further in the podcast, I guess he s speaking in English. But these podcast contains universal musical moments with the great Nicolas Gabet in the last hour of the episodes, that interpoles amd highlights musical excerpts from Prince albums, amd make you hear what is hidden in the mix ( sometimes he redoes the multitracks). This is fucking great, a bit like what Brad Sundberg does with MJ conferemces. So why would Sony/the estate/Howe would tell Bitton that TMBGITW prevented them from releasing anything else if it were not true, this is so far-fetched but true Why almost 30 years to settle that lawsuit shit, that's beyond me. But that is still preventing them to release that one particular song, in streaming, the video, the reedition of Gold Experience, a post WB true greatest hits, etc. And even a few seconds in a concert, that is becoming really ridiculous. Matthieu Bitton also said Cause and Effect ( never heard it) was on one of 3 tracklist Prince did for W2A.
But Kirk Johnson vetoed it because according to him, it was scheduled for 20Ten... But of course, it wasn't on 20Ten, so what was the point of not releasing it, I don't know. Maybe they are preparing a 20Ten SDE [Edited 8/17/21 12:10pm]
