You shelve Purple Music, Cosmic Day and Wally but you are proud of Hot Summer. Shocking.

Be honest, fams, this dude had zero bullshit detector. Grooves up on the shelf. Eegad. Religion just fucks up music. Maybe the pills clouded his mind.

Wally is like God kissing me. Purple Music is having sex with a harem of stellas. Cosmic Day is like drinking liquid gold. The fuck shelved these gems and others and ran to Hide The fucking Bone? ouch

All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!

Wasn't it released online by Prince in 2010?

Don't forget that interview where he said who decides what is better? He also said that 1984 was a special period? Why? He had the same brain. He didn't just lose his talent. Song writing doesn't dull, you just lose your fire in the gut. That fire to impress fuels greatness. He had something to prove. He became comfortable and rich. That fueled his lazyness of mind. And, to be honest, the dude wanted hits. He did Hide The Bone because he had the addled idea that this would be some big single. He shelved it when reality set in. No way radio would play Prince rapping.

I also love Cosmic Day & Wally BUT it was HIS music and he did whatever he wanted with it. We have no say. That's how it works.

prince arguably was never a good editor.

or curator of his own music.

he was just lucky in the 80s that he made so many good songs, that whatever he did include, it would be good.

later on, that didnt work so well as he had little idea of what was his best material, or was too determined to score a hit, that it would marr the albums he did put together.

basically, he was too reluctant to let anyone else have a say.

ended up ruining his albums.

Not exactly, it was played on a radio station, then widely shared.

RIP sad

I thought it was a co-write, somebody else did the lyrics, Prince did the music?

Hide the Bone isn't a rap song. Haven't you listened to it? It has a few seconds of what I guess you could call rapping at the end but that's it.

Hmm. I feel some of what you are getting at, but some of it doesn't add up. I not sure you, nor anyone, was really privy to the passion/fire/goings on in Prince's mind/body/spirit.

-

Gett Off was (GASP!) full of Prince rapping and was/is played on the radio.

-

If Prince wanted "Hide The Bone" to have a chance at being "a hit"...I'd imagine he would have released it as a single rather than wait/relegate it to be released as an "official bootleg" on Crystal Ball. No?

-

Lastly, as I am sure you are aware, any bullshit song can be "a hit" if pushed enough.

-

Prince was unlikely to have a radio hit/chart success once he went to war with the record industry, it had little to do with his material or "passion."

"New Power slide...."

Cosmic Day? That's totally explanatory why he didn't release that. Debatable if it was ever meant to be a Prince song.

I really like Hot Summer. I sounds like a complete song he intended to release. What's shocking about it? Wasn't a lot more he was going to do with that one unless he stripped it down.

I can't imagine loving Comic Day's bubblegum but not appreciating Hot Summer.

Different strokes for d'ffrent folks though, and I get the premise, he definitely released inferior tracks to material in the Vault. We know he did it on purpose, whether it was because "we weren't ready" or because he'd made it such a core part of his mythology.

Grafiitti Bridge, Right the Wrong, Jughead, Purple and Gold, 1999 (the new master), Animal Kingdom.

There is a growing 'Prince's Torture Tunes' album out there.

Agreed. I see this all the time. Is it the mix of horns and rock? I like Right the Wrong.

Yeah but Purple Music is like The Dance Electric, Possessed even. Overrated jam filler.
