Early version of The Gold Experience

An early version of this album from the spring of 1994 runs like this:
Interactive
Days of Wild
The Most Beautiful Girl In the World
Now
Acknowledge Me
Ripop
319
Shy
Billy Jack Bitch
eye Hate U
Gold

I gave it a listen in this order and it makes for a pretty good album! It has all of his best funk/hiphop tracks from those years plus his best ballads.
If you take any of this seriously, you're a bigger fool than I am.

Nice! But for me, „Shhh“ is his best ballad from this era.
See the man with the blue guitar, maybe one day he`ll be a star...

I’ve got this version in a play-list and listen to it often.
.
Days Of Wild and Acknowledge Me are 2 massive pluses but if it had Shhh it would be perfection

I've always thought that Come and Gold should've just been a double album. So adding the original version of Come, Shhh, Papa, Space, Race, and Dark to that list above would be great. Maybe Hide the Bone as well.

“Days Of Wild”,”Interactive” and “Ripopgodazippa” are great songs.I was kinda disappointed that these tunes didn’t make the final tracklist.

At one point,I was excited about “Acknowledge Me” but now I can see why he removed it.I don’t think it’s as strong as the other tracks.

I agree. When those songs were out from the BEAUTIFUL experience, I was just obsessed. Frankly, I think "Acknowledge Me" is stronger than "Now," which I love. It would've fit nicely on the final version of the album. A really strong mid-side-B song tucked in there. The "come on baby put your foot on the chair, there..." harkens to the nastiness of "319."

"Interactive" is such a unique beast for many reasons. It really did compete and clash with "Endorphinmachine." It's odd because he played those two songs together sometimes, but on album he didn't think it worked. I would've opened the second side of TGE with "Interactive," and shifted "Dolphin" somewhere else. Maybe.

"Days of Wild" could have easily replaced "P Control." Not that the latter is a bad song, but it would've made a stellar b-side for the HATE experience EP or something.

I think some of these songs could've made it without the segues, and if each side of the album (besides it does divide with "Dolphin" opening side B for the cassette and vinyl) as its own album. Same layout both sides and that's one strong ass album.

Either way, ditch "Shy." It sucks balls. I removed it from my playlist and re-segued the sound effects to blend naturally. I don't miss it.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

It's far, far better than 'Now'. Was back then too.

^The two tracks work very well together. Now is basically a whole lotta noise while Acknowledge Me has more melody. And then things slow down again with Ripop, not one of my favourites, but it all flows very nicely. If it wasn't for the WB war, we might have gotten this album in mid 1994.

I kinda wish he’d released it as the soundtrack to The Beautiful Experience film, the live tracks are killer and I love how songs that ended up on Come and The Gold Experience work so well together.

I have to disagree ."Now" is the funkiest jam on TGE.It's alot of fun and very addictive.

"Acknowledge Me" is cool, but I think it sounds like alot of music on R&B radio in 1994.Cool track but not very distinctive.

"P Control" is the weakest track on TGE.Never really liked it.

and that would have been perfect.I hate that TGE was caught in the middle of Prince's feud with Warners. It's a brilliant album.

the problem is that days of wild sucks.

and acknowledge me is basically prince trying to compete with babyface and other pop R&B producers.

it was dated when it was first circulated in the 90s. it might sound better now, im not sure, ive not heard it since the 90s.

now also is prince trying to do rowdy rock-rap. again, another bad idea. prince cant do fratboy music and shouldnt try to.

i like the most beautiful girl but its just a weird song to have on this album and probably shouldnt be on there.

interactive and ripgodzippa are better.

I almost lost my shit when I first heard Acknowledge Me on Soul Train. For some reason it sounded better on shitty tv audio. I taped it on vcr--remember those?--and it sounded like heaven on crack being licked by Mayte with a reacharound. It now sounds great, but not like then.

Ripoff is my jam.

No,it doesn’t.This is the best, most genuine, most convincing rap song that Prince has ever done.

This I agree with. It’s a cool track but it does sound like Prince doing the LA and Babyface sound. It’s not very distinctive.”Love Sign” follows a similiar formula, but it’s a better, stronger song imo.

my tracklist (based on tracks that were on the various configurations by prince, not other songs from the period) -

Interactive

Endorphin

Shhh

Ripopgodazippa

319

Dolphin

Shy

Billy Jack bitch

eye Hate U

Gold

songs like days of wild, acknowledge me, they are ok, but more like b-side songs.

no one would take prince rapping seriously. and no one wanted to hear him doing a babyface style song just to show he could.
