The Prince fans that I could do without pt. 5

I cant stop! Here are some more:

* The "Wendy and Lisa fart gases made Prince smell good" fan: This fan seems to be female and/or european most of the time. They are STILL claiming the overstated significance of the girls' contribution to the Prince 80s catalogue. While they are good (I have all of their albums and a few that were never released) they were not a primary driving force that made ATWIAD, Parade, or SOTT the great albums that they are. When it is all said and done, we all know as Prince fans that is comes done to Prince. I think the most obvious and telling proof of this exaggerated status of Wendy and Lisa is their "greatness" after Prince. Like almost all of the other Prince collaborators, the post-Prince work pales in comparison to what was done with Prince. If I hear about the strings on Parade or the arrangements on SOTT being the W&L influence one more time, I am going to start throwing shit. Don't get my wrong: the girls have made some good albums (Fruit on the Bottom being their best in my opinion) but lets face it, there is no masterpeice and this wonderful "artistry" and classical training has gotten them into doing soundtracks for TV and movies that are forgotten when the run at your local multiplex is over.

This fan constantly looks for ways to downgrade Prince even during his so called peak in the mid to late 80s. W&L seem to be the weed that keeps popping up in the purple garden when these "informed" fans try to seriously discuss the music.

footnote: see the thread titled Why D.M.S.R. is the greatest book written on Prince by lovebizarre

* The fan that always knows what Prince OUGHT to do: Nevermind the fact that this fan has NEVER been a force in the music business since the 70s; never won Grammies or an Oscar; never made movies; never created careers for other artists; never written monster hits for others; not played the media like a fiddle for the last 20 years; has not banged Kim Basinger or Carmen Electra or Vanity; cant rip off a guitar solo that makes your nipples hard or a bass solo that makes you get all ugly in the face; never jumped off a piano with 6 inch heels; or can not catch the mic stand on the way up out of a James Brown split.

This fan jumps on the soapbox and states that Prince needs a producer; Prince needs to get back with a record label; Prince needs to do a duet with this person or that one; Prince has to get rid of Larry Graham - all of this career advice with no real basis, expertise, or industry knowledge make his opinons almost completely unfounded and simply so much hot air. (This fan has a reoccuring membership to the crybaby category that I examined in pt.3)

Prince is human which means he is essentially flawed like the rest of us - this is most obvious. However, I dont argue with Donald Trump on how to get paid, I dont argue with Micheal Jordan on how to take it to the hole, and I dont argue with Prince on how to make great music consistently and stay alive in the music business.

* The fans that actually refer to themselves as "fams": If Prince invented this term, it is easily the dumbest thing he has ever come up with. I cant lay down any intellectual argument or analysis on this one. I just think it sounds stupid. If there is purple koolaid out there, this fan is drinking it in 40s straight to the head.

I'll hear all - haters and friends alike smile
