The Sunday Times (London) - Prince is back! The album he didn't dare release

The lead article in this week's Culture section of The Sunday Times. (There is a companion article on the 'nine greatest albums from beyond the grave')

Prince's Welcome 2 America - the pop genius's lost album

The virtuoso's lost album is coming out at last - Tom Jones and the people who made it reveal all

by Jonathan Dean

With a horrendous opening paragraph reducing Prince's entire output to 'sex'. No thanks.

can you tell us what the article says about the album, any details or a review?

most of us can't read it because you have to sign up for a membership to do so.

It is indeed a bag of shite, written by an excuse of a journalist.

With the pointless and redundant addition of Tom f'ing Jones.

well it's not a complete waste of time or a piece of shit. it just doesn't have much information on the album at all.

it's pretty obvious they haven't heard the album.

there were a few little bits and pieces I found interesting or nice, that I haven't read anywhere else yet, like prince playing "twinkle twinkle little star" on guitar for elisa's young daughter.

so not a complete waste of time for me.

Its just a strange article, What has Tom jones got to do with Welcome To America. Its like they didnt have enough material for the article so lets give Tom jones a ring. We know him.

Good to see so much positivty in the below-the-line comments on this article.

What's the rule on posting the text from an article that's behind a paywall?

It's also worth reading the below the line comments, as the journalist is responding to reader comments and also adding extra info from interviews that he couldn't fit into the article.

Jonathan Dean, the journalist wrote in the comments, "I didn’t have space to go into more of the songs on the new album sadly, but one warrants a mention here - When She Comes is classic filthy Prince soul balladry. As Morris said to me, ‘His falsetto is on point!’"

I have asked whether it is the same as the version already released but haven't had a response yet.

Maybe it would have been better to go into the album more than talking to Tom Jones!
