Bruh this is one of those songs that sounds like he wrote it in his sleep…. And in that category , this is lower in the list… definitely not top shelf of that category……

If Prince was making music like this in the 80's, none of us would've be here today and prince would have never been famous.

La la la, hee, hee, hee... wink

lol The playing on that is other worldly compared to Hot Summer.

Out of the songs of the album, it sounds like it belongs on 20ten. It is slight, but fun and catchy like some of the songs on 20ten.

I don't know how anyone could compare Hot Summer to La, La, La, He, He, Hee. That's like comparing Hansen's Mmm Bop to Mozart's Sonata No. 11.

I suppose the edit version of L,L,L,H,H,H might come across as slight. But the full length version has layers and layers of greatness. Once you hear the full thing you realize the edit is just the intro, slowly building into what ultimately becomes a funk masterpiece in the fully realized song.

or Shake.

I remember him doing Hot Summer as a bit of a call and response chant back in 2010. It was... eh... fine. Not exactly the highlight of the gig.

Damn, I hadn't thought of it but it kinda dores remind me of Shake. Which might explain why I don't like it much.

One of the very few good songs on the album. Uptempo and fun. Reminds me of the songs they used to play on the Saturday morning cartoons in the early to mid 1970s such as The Archies, Scooby Doo, and Jose and The Pussycats.

If Morris Hayes didn't touched it, how more original Princy would it be ?

It's actually kind of a rip off of Cream, but that's cool.

It is a fun bubblegum song that injects some positive energy into the album. I like it for what it is. The song Yes is similar as are a few songs on 20ten. Instead of being stuck on unfavorable comparisons to the 1980s, I see it as Prince's attempt in that time period to lighten up. Perhaps this fun was for him. I enjoy joining him in this fun. Thankfully we have so many other types of music from him as well so that not all of his songs have to be brilliant, complex, or serious.

I agree with whoever said it’s one of those songs Prince can write in his sleep. It just sounds very uninspired and he actually sounds bored while singing it. The main issue I have is that like several pop songs in his last years, the production is so safe, sterile and pristine. The instruments don’t sound alive - they sound like they came out of a computer. I miss the live instrument sound of the 90s NPG and even The Rainbow Children.
