Interesting that I've come across fans that think the 'Love Symbol' started in 1991

but what I call the New Breed symbol has existed for a while in Uptown. It's all over the place

Look at the lower right of the "Let's Work" 12 inch cover... there is a Venus Symbol wih a smiley face...

I don't think it was called that until the symbols look changed and it was more 'defined' in 1991-1992

It wasn't called the love symbol in the 80s.

I call it the New breed symbol because that was his thing and the New Breed Fan Club that went to 87-88. Just a thing

I remember t-shirts back then with the image on it. But yeah, I'd love to have a big 24"x36" print of it. Maybe without the "take me with u" on it.

This earlier version of the symbol pendant is my favourite. He had just started using it when I discovered him, and Lovesexy being the first album of his that I bought intentionally, that album and the symbol are strongly linked in my mind despite the fact that he still wore the cross while recording it. I recently had the pendant made in silver to wear pretty much daily. I used the detailed size info I found on an auction site that had sold one of his personally worn ones. I'm incredibly happy with it. I am thinking about having a spare made, possibly with Lovesexy '88 engraved on it vertically. LS is his most influential work in my case.

A mix of the male (Mars) and female (Venus) gender symbols. A symbol for androgyne, hermaphrodite, or intersex. Sometimes shown pointing in any different direction. Also the alchemist symbol for iron sulfate. Unicode: U+26A8
