First, Albert Magnoli has a rather colorful way of revisionist history. He was on that panel once with Bob Cavallo, Apollonia, Jerome, and others, and when Magnoli was telling a story, Cavallo kept saying, "wait a minute, that's not quite what happened." And once again Prince famz fail to read properly and launch nonsense into the world. . The (dubious) 100 songs claim is a bunch of unreleased songs that Prince gave to Albert Magnoli, yet so far we don't even have any evidence that Prince had that many unreleased songs recorded by then, let alone that this entire backlog would be suitable. Frankly, until Magnoli shows us these tapes and tells us their contents, I would regard this story is wildly exaggerated, that the real number would be far lower and that many of these tracks would not be suitable at all. . http://www.princevault.co...s_Go_Crazy possibly from fall 1982, recorded on 18 May 1983 . http://www.princevault.co...urple_Rain says "Computer Blue features songwriting input by Dr. Fink, Lisa Coleman, and Wendy Melvoin. Dr. Fink also wrote a keyboard bass line for the track. Prince’s father John L. Nelson was also credited for the Father’s Song component of the track, which had been worked on during rehearsals on the 1983 leg of the 1999 Tour." but the individual entry for CB doesn't contain that info and claims no studio recording exists before the August 1983 concert. . http://www.princevault.co...ld_Die_4_U IIRC we have a rehearsal/soundcheck recording from before 1983, so that song's entry is seemingly incomplete. Recorded at rehearsal in June 1983. . http://www.princevault.co...99m_A_Star might have existed in a somewhat embryonical version since 1981. Recorded at rehearsal in June 1983. . http://www.princevault.co...urple_Rain Stevie Nicks claims to have received an unfinished instrumental version after they collaborated on Stand Back, so that would be after Jan 1983. . In any case, it is somewhat unclear when Prince first met with Magnoli, but it is most likely sometime during July 1983. So any songs people suggest should come with evidence that these songs were recorded before that date. Even in the above cases there is not much evidence to suggest that "complete studio recordings, ready to release" (Magnoli's claim) exist of most of them. © Bart Van Hemelen

Apparently Morris Hayes heard 5 unreleased songs from the Purple Rain era. He thought they were better than anything on Purple Rain. [Edited 9/4/21 3:29am] Welcome 2 The Dawn

We know Prince had been envisioning and earmarking songs for Dreams/Purple Rain for several years. I certainly believe Prince had 100 songs recorded by then, but it's likely not that he recorded 100 specifically for this project. He could've given Albert a slew of tapes that had shit back from 1976 for all we know.

Not sure if his cranky online persona is just an act but I have NEVER seen him post bullshit, ever, and he always comes with the facts and contributes a lot to this site. (And yes, I´ve received one not so nice response from him , too, even though I was right, but that was a long time ago. ) - Just saying. - As far as your initial thread question is concerned, I think Al Magnoli has his heart in the right place and I quite like him but I think he exaggerated a bit when he mentioned those 100 songs, and even though we´ve discussed this topic a gazillion times over the years, we´ve never really come close to a conclusion. I doubt that there were 100 songs written for that film (see Bart´s comments), and if I recall correctly there was an interview with Bobby Z. in Uptown magazine many , many years ago where Bobby also doubted that number and the mystique around Purple Rain outtakes in general and said something like "There weren´t really that many unused songs for that soundtrack." but I am just paraphrasing here. It remains an interesting question though, and I´ve always wondered what songs were given to Magnoli to listen to. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Morris Hayes told him to absolutely release it, but Prince said " No, I keep that for my children ".

For me, I don’t care how amazing the food is at a restaurant, If it’s slammed down on the table with a snarl by the waiter, I’m walking out and not coming back. If it’s ever confirmed that it’s not mere bad behaviour or a purposed persona but a spectrum issue, then I’ll be happy to play. Until then, there’s no information about Prince that is important enough to me to seek it from such a wilfully obnoxious source. As to the 100 songs. I agree. I’ve always assumed it was spin and an arbitrary tossed place holder that really meant “lots of songs”. We don’t need to list 100 songs so think of my question as more of a place holder inquiry to see how big a list we can speculate and how that might translate to a future Super Massive Fuck Off Deluxe Opus Edition. I was happy enough with the deluxe release until 1999 and SOTT followed. But KoolEaze, I’ve always appreciated your comments and approach when I’ve see you here. No, they should release it as a single album. If they ever find what and where it is.

That´s actually a great analogy. I never looked at it like that, but you´re using a good example there. I really have no idea why we get such reactions from him and can´t and won´t speculate. The good ( = accurate info) outweighs the bad (= rude behaviour) I guess, but sometimes it´s vice versa. [Edited 9/5/21 14:28pm] " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Just because we don't know the titles doesn't mean he wasn't given 100 songs as stated.....Let estate do its job and find them
