She's down on record saying its the only song she worked on she didn't like, if you dislike any Prince song at all you're in the same boat as her.
It's an extraordinary song though, in that as well as sounding great, it has that same quality as Joy in Repetition and Cocoa Boys, in sounding totally unique compared to his other songs. Furthermore, if the truth is anywhere close to that being his worst song - in her opinion, then G.O.A.T. would be confirmed. Then again, she was probably around when 'Feline' was recorded so maybe she forgot that one.

If anyone could have an opinion on Prince music 1984-1986 it would be Susan Rodgers but as his primary engineer perhaps it was inappropriate for her to laugh and comment on the track to Prince during the actual session. |

"Feline" is a good track. Worst track has to be "purple and gold" |

It's an utterly brilliant song and uniquely Prince. While all art is necessarily subjective, I do indeed consider Susan utterly wrong. What a howler of a comment. Shame Prince didn't re-release it in 94/95 as it appears he was planning given the CD single artwork created. The lyrics were also in his Neo Manifesto book published during the same period, so it was obviously on his mind at the time along with 'Empty Room', which I heard and saw the video for on The Live Experience tour at Wembley Arena in 1995.
Not so. Art is only subjective if either people approach it with subjective emotional bias ('I'm probably not going to like this song as I don't like the artist'). Or the music processing in the brain is flawed. This applies to vast majority of people because most people only listen to a few genres at best. But in turn, their limited taste incurs a snobby bias once again. So it's both, subjective bias and dodgy processing.
Now, to the idea people like different songs across multiple genres, yes ok. But really, two abstract things determine the quality of music. How much does it cohere, the anti-chaos quotient if you will? And second, how much element of surprise is there, the anti-boredom quotient?

Great song. The harp actually works, the production is lush, the vocals are fantastic, the guitar is great AND it's one of the only p songs i'm aware of in 3/4 time. |

I want more "Adonis & Bathsheba" Prince. Prince being Prince, unapologetically. Same goes for Cosmic Day. He was onto something new and exciting in that era.
I'd much rather have those types of songs than anything from 3EG or even HNR1.

It's such a great track. As much as she's clearly a genius engineer (and seems like a cool person), I find her opinons of P's songs a little off. |

The story apparently goes, P employed her first as a technician. Then she sorta trained on the job to become an engineer.
Her fave unreleased P song is Moonbeam Levels (only released posthumously). A song I quite like, but can't help feel slightly disappointed by the chorus - it has a boybandish quality to my ears. Adonis & Bathsheba is the better song. I say this as someone who enjoys The Orb's Cydonia?!! The best music has subtlety and details that most people miss.

This song has always been a gem in my opinion.O have always been curious because I had heard about the song before it even leaked. I reqd that upon hearing some of the song ,Susan busted out laughing at the song in front of Prince. Maybe that is why prince didn't release it? I don't hear why she would laugh because the song is great and kinda stands out in the Prince catalog [Edited 6/30/21 13:31pm]
No that was her opinion! I'm not really feeling the song either. Just because we're Prince fans don't mean we have to like or love every song he ever made. I don't. |

Really, these tracks are 6/8, maybe 12/8.
I love A&B. But I have a bad habit of ignoring lyrics, so if that's where the 'bad' or the 'funny' is, I'd be the last to know.
