Yep.......and it's nuts. U guys don't know more about Prince and his thoughts than he did. Stop the madness. FOOLS multiply when WISE Men & Women are silent.

- LOL Herbal tea for peace. - Prince lied a lot, ís a recurring theme on itself. Misleading is kind of lying or cheating too. Morris hayes came in way after Purple Rain; whatever Prince told him about the PR tracks is something we will never be able to check for sure. And don't forget, Prince alsways said that he never looked back, remember ? So I personally think it's very doubtfull there are held back better songs. And why didn't he do that for other albums too, or even mentioned it ? With The Super Deluxe Editions, we are all aware of the unknown jams/gems. But overall these gems did not always fit the released project, or vice versa. And, he more than often went back to his own held back catalogue to pick up older songs again. So, the ''not looking back'' part that Prince often made us believe is also doubtfull, all of a sudden. - He was never really consistent, except for never trusting anyone and recording music. And that's what makes him partly so unpredictable and interesting, that skunny motherfucker with the big ego. -

The great thing about Purple Rain (the album), is that its sequencing and editing are perfection - yes the songs are also good - but isn't it all really about framing, timing and the whole frenzy over the film back then? Let's say there was a PR2 ready to go in the vault - would people (the general population and maybe fams) be interested and hold it up as one of his best? We can see by the outtake discs on Spotify that no one is really listening to those songs. Now that's not a true sign of how good they are, but we have to be pragmatic in the reception that these songs might get. Even a song that is better than WDC might not make any impact on the world of music at this point.

he said shit like this literally all the time and it was nearly always hyperbole to fluff his image or ego, it may be charming to think about, but 99 percent of the times his claims don't hold that much veracity...

There is a quote from Mavis Staple (on the ‘Prince of Paisley Park’ documentary that Paisley Park collaborated on in 1990/91) stating that when she recorded her vocals he would send the engineer out (and presumably run the board himself). Also includes footage of him appearing to do just that, but may be a set up, with him mixing tracks after the fact.

Right, and this was his breakout to stardom. Why would you hold out on this lp. I think he did put his best stuff on it but was limited. It could have been a double lp but he just had one with 1999. "

- I Agree. The hard work on the Purple Rain project involved acting lessons for hi and all others involved, sScreenwritings, script, location scouting, and whatever else. And just for that reason i can imagine Prince wanted to have as much control about all of it. He just did not have enough time to record more. It's been said and repeated befor by otheres involved. It's all just as simple as that. He did it all (his album, othere's albums, a movie, etc) in a year and a few months. Go figure. It's already fucking amazing what he did and achieved. Impossible for any other artist out there to even try that.

- You're absolutly right for 98%. But that 2% of luck, hope and unpredictabilty is also needed. The music industry has (drastically) changed, true. But never say never. Although my realism folows you entirely in this. - "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves.
