I honestly wish that Prince had used a different cover for Lovesexy. It is a brilliant album and I hate the fact that the cover kept many people from exploring it.Let's face it....in 1988,many dudes were NOT gonna buy an album with a nude man on the cover the cover was an unwelcome distraction, imo.

- If ''DUDES'' had a probelm with that in 1988, they probably haven't changed to that point either in 2021. And I still don't understand the 'nudeness' which is constantly refered too. Prudish people who don't like this! We barely see a nipple and no dick ! THAT is nude to me (probably possibly pornographic to them). - For fucks sake there are tens-of-thousands of paintings of more nude nipple-pussy-dicks-asses ever made in religious paintings over the past centuries than this one prudish childish innocent cover photo, reprinted on artbooks covers and posters for exhbitions etc... I will never uderstand the prudishness of the Anglo-Saxon world. - Though, The Pet Shop Boys once released a limitied maxi single i believe with a dick on it : Let me see if i can find it ; Her it is : https://www.discogs.com/Pet-Shop-Boys-Before/release/185952 - "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. - I'll probably get banned for this. What the fuck anyway. - "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

What were the sales figures on the Pet SHop Boys album? Also, their audience was almost exlusively a gay following - to the point of being considered a "gay band" like Frankie, Dead or Alive, Sylvester, etc.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
- See the link, this was a limited edition. In The UK and elsewhere in Europe their followers were certainly not exclusively gay. Certainly not. But yes they are a gay band, not that it is of any importance. They never posed it, nor used it or overexposed it. I've been to various concerts over the past decades, and the gay crowd certainly was not the majority. Same for Elton John if you like, or George Michael or Judas Priest or Queen, even Prince. Most female popstars have more gay fans i believe, like Madonna, Britney, Cher, Jannet, Whitney, Miley, Katy, Taylor, Donna Summer, etc. Prince has quite a great deal of gay fans too i believe. But actually, does this all matters ? No. - True. The advertisement teasers of the Batman symbol were everywhere without any other info back in 1989. That was so amazing !

Yall sleepin on 1999 THE NEW MASTER .. now THAT was an album cover .. eye wonder if a new master deluxe is in the pipeline with all the re-recorded hits p had mentioned

- If it's not mentioned, it's not remembered, right? Wasn't that the worst cover, ever. I know 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder', but seriously ? That was the least Princy of all Prince covers imho. - I do hope they won't waiste their precious time with releasing the rerecorded versions tbh. As downloads, why not. Personally i'm not interested in re-recorded versions of his own 'hits' on a LP or CD. Peace though. - "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

Best: Batman, Parade & 1999 When I think 80s and what I remember when watching those all about the 80s programs on VH1 I think of 1999. The LRC video and just that entire aesthetic. Parade is just clean cut and straight to the point, I love it. BatMan is just dope af, a giant Batman symbol? I mean come on, that’s awesome. Worst: Emancipation, Graffiti Bridge, The Truth, Musicology and Xpectation Emancipation looks like a funeral handout. Graffiti Bridge is obviously inspired by the Rave artwork and just looks cheaply done, no offense to the artist. Musicology and Xpectation are self explanatory. The Truth seems like a lazy and also half ass attempt at the blur stare of SOTT.

Pet Shop Boys certainly didn't have 'an almost exclusively' gay following. They were/are very much mainstream.

LOL...hey I'm not disagreeing with you but I can tell you that, here in America, most men were not going to buy an album with a nude man on the cover. That was simply a no-no.It was 1988 and the whole macho hip-hop thing was going on.I know it's ridiculous, but that's how it was.As Prince fans,we are open-minded about stuff like this, but the mainstream is not.
