Playlist for a friend

A good buddy of mine that I jam with regularly asked me to make him a playlist of Prince songs that I think he might like based on what my favorites are.

Would love to hear your feedback!
Let the song choice loving/hating begin biggrin

Some great tracks on there! Seems a little unfocused but that's the problem with P. What do u focus on? Rock? Funk? Live jams? Ballads? Seems like u went for more of an eclectic focus for your musician friend.

YEah, need more info. What instrument does he play? What does he listen to and like? What sorts of music does he play, etc.

He’s pretty all over the place with what he likes. He likes techno and country music and most of what’s in between. He plays guitar, bass, and drums.

Great observation. I agree, it is fairly unfocused. I tried to block things up so they at least had a wave of certain vibes.

Thanks for checking it out and the feedback.

I didn't read you list cause I wanted to go in fresh but I'd get What's My Name, 101 and Dance On in there maybe. Country? I dunno. Folks will say Right the Wrong but meh. Maybe some stuff off The Undertaker of Exodus - Honky Tonk Woman and Return of the Bump Squad.

Those are my go-to albums for non fans when I wanna surprise them.

Oh wow, those are some great suggestions, will strongly consider them! Thank you!

I actually made a Spotify list too, since he doesn’t have Tidal. Here’s a link to that, which is slightly different but mostly the same.

OMG. He asked you for a playlist, not for 50 or more completely random tracks.
He would be lost buy the tenth track, and it woud be a pain in the ass inthe end to retain anything significant
here.
Just buy him Purple Rain on vinyl cool , that would be a good start.
Then if he likes it, try SOTT.

Nice to see Joint 2 Joint on your playlist - gem of a song that one!

Some great choices on there, but perhaps a little too long for your friend to digest. I'd recommend starting him on 12-15 songs and see how he gets on. Take it from there.

If you are trying to convert him to a Prince fan, make a playlist of what HE LIKES rather than your favorites. That's actually what he was asking. And use an accessible, non-pay channel like the Official Prince Channel on Youtube.

Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

Quick update, my boy is a fan. He had no idea our man made this type of music outside of the top 40 stuff and the obvious Purple Rain trax. Thanks everyone for your input, much appreciated.

He went on to say that he could see where I picked up my style of playing from, which to me is a huge compliment bc I didn’t think I picked up anything from listen to Prince style wise, but I guess it’s subconscious and I didn’t even realize.

Could you copy and paste the playlist you gave him for us?
That is great to hear that he is now a fan.

Seconded.

Yeah...if I know enough about a person's tastes, I can usually cobble together a disc of deep cuts that will turn their heads and usually give me the "I didn't know he could do that" response.
