Can you separate the music from the visuals ?

When I hear Lovesexy I see that fabulous wardrobe and flowing hair

When I hear computer blue I see him topless, dancing with his band in a circle

When I hear planet earth I picture him opening with it at the o2..

For me, I can't hear a song without seeing the look of the era

But, when I hear Madonna, MJ, anyone else who is an icon, I don't have this.

It's peculiar to prince.

I don't have visuals like that, per se. Sure, I may remember the video, but the music was there first.

For me, I've always seen color(s) with music. (I used to think everyone did, but apparently not.) It's usually the same color for a song, so songs don't have visuals for me, they have color or colors.

I've heard of this, it's quite rare! What colour is Judas smile to you?

I've probably not listened to that song since it came out, so I can't answer that.

I imagine it to be red I don't know why! That's such an interesting talent, do people their talking voices have a colour too or music only?

I have the same thing, it's not every song but some songs i see colours or sense colours. It is a strange thing but it must evoke some sort of emotion.

Prince’ music alone is visual and tremendously aesthetic on itself. When I first discovered his music, I didn’t have any videos or live performances to draw from as frames of reference, the music and the way he set the mood for a particular song/album was sonically visual.

Easily...like when I'm listening to Kiss or Marilyn manson..why let the visual get in the way

I do but sometimes it’s hard because I think about what he probably looked like when he recorded a song which would have been in a completely different era to when it was released. It’s usually his hairstyle that I visualise.

You're all talking about "Synesthesia".
It's most often applied to music but colors and textures can also be associated with events. For isntance, I see a different color for each of the seven weekly days. Friday is purple, Sunday is yellow.

Rolling Stone Magazine can't. They gave the Graffiti Bridge Soundtrack a 4 1/2 star review before the movies release. Then the movie dropped and they apparently felt different about the music.

In their published Album Guide(my copy is 2004) it's a 3 star review.

Which is more accurate imo

Yes I do that too! Certain words and songs make me think of colours, and calendar months did that for me when I was little before I knew what it was

I rarely visualize the artists and never see colors when i listen to music...if its a song with vocals, i visualize myself as the lead singer if its male lead vocals... or if its a female lead singer, i visualize my my woman, past or present (depending on the era of the song)...if its an instrumental, i visualize myself playing the guitar parts (or drums if no guitars) with the rest of whatever band im listening to...when i want to visualize the artists performing, i mainly just watch their videos.

I cannot do it. The visuals/style/band/era is so particular to the music

Even when I listen to Pink Cashmere in the 90s I only see 88 Prince (and Anna Fantastic) etc styled

Now it depends but I can see 'I Wanna Be Your Lover' from 1972-1988

I don’t have those kind of visuals. Mine is more like picturing the story he’s singing about and seeing the story play out in a scene. Maybe colors come and go but I don’t register them in an identifying way.

Same here--haven't watched the videos in years... Have different videos in my mind, except maybe for "When Doves Cry." wink
