What exactly was “the Continental”?

He said he had it but never said what it was. The car (Lincoln Continental)?

He says he IS the Continental.
The woman being referenced is Mayte (flipping coins on her belly)

A "Continental" is a 'sophicatated' ladies man, usually vaguely European, usually a bit sleazy and comical.

Google "Christopher Walken SNL The Continental" for a reference.

Yeah, it's bragging, like Morris saying, "ain't nobody bad, like me." He's an international man of mystery.

You get a continental breakfast....

Bit of everything.....

Limp toast (was he trying to tell us something)
Tepid tea
Soggy cereal
Cold eggs
Rubbery mushrooms

So much promise but usually a disappointment

What ever comes before and after that is yin yang.

...

Also, while I'm thinking about it, this song has one of the single worst lyrics in Prince's catalog.

"Why settle for a star when u can have the sun"?

The sun IS a star, Prince.

The continental is a dominant sex position - so called as the position is considered European.

Exactly smile
And yin yang is actually everything. At least the music’s bumping.

You know what he meant. C'mon now.

But yeah this song is about the music not the lyrics.
Time keeps on slipping into the future...

This moment is all there is...

I always figured it was a reference to, or inspired by, this series of SNL sketches. First one debuted in 1990 so it's within the realm of possibility.

I’ve been informed that my opinion is worth less than those expressed by others here.

Which itself is a parody of a 50's show. Prince did love his old movies, perhaps he was"inspired"!
