Prince LGBTQ+ Ally I know that Prince had a quote from an interview where it was stated he said, ‘ folks be sticking it everywhere ‘ . Was it purely his religious beliefs?
He did work through the years with Wendy & Lisa ( tho I think he asked them to denounce their sexuality. I think as the years past on he would have become more tolerant. I bring this up as there’s a few homophobic remarks on the Paisley Park FB page because they posted a Pride flag. ** MODERATORS NOTE ** KEEP THE THREAD ABOUT PRINCE PAISLEY PARK and LGBTQ connection. Take any directly religious/non religious talk to P&R -> off topic / anti-religious or disrespectful posts about Prince will be removed

Jehovah's Witnesses do not accept active homosexuals as baptised members. Prince's alleged (We only have one account of it from one perspective) denouncing of Wendy and Lisa's homosexuality coincided with his JW conversion. However, he did go on to work and perform with Wendy and Lisa in 2007, so presumably any issues were resolved. Whatever, I think it is more likely Prince was tolerant, then following his religion. He then progressed away from the Jehovah's Witness faith toward the end of his life.

On Oprah in the 90s she asked him about his sexuality and stuff and he seemed like an ally and cool towards the lgbtq+ community. Same in the 70s and 80s but then Larry Graham enter his life at his most vulnerable (death of his son and parents)with his JW beliefs. Not saying Prince isn't to blame but Larry seemed like a vulture and I'm glad it looked like he distanced himself from Larry towards the end of his life.

. Vicki from Sevenmag had documented several cases of homophobic behavior from the Prince camp in an issue of the PPML, including a post on Prince's official site that was a case of gay panic, something like "someone was approaching Prince but he was a bit too fabulous". © Bart Van Hemelen

Do we have any actual info that shows Prince was moving away from the JW denomination?
Because Prince has always incorporated other stuff (especially his own Princeology) into his religious beliefs.

Janelle Mone came out after Prince passed away. I wonder if he suspected.
I read that part of Andy Allo's split with Prince was because she was questioning or bi??

I don't think Prince would have ever posted an LGBT flag on any of his social media pages. (nor endorsed a particual political party, like how we saw people use Prince connected terms etc to push for people to vote last year)

I think Prince displayed the common religious and sexual conservatism of many older black men of his generation.
Hetoerosexual sex in all it's favors is something to be celebrated.
Lesbian sexuality is something to vex and possibly titilate you.
Homosexual male sexuality was, "Eww, gross...".
He had no problem hiring and delighting in lesbian bandmates, obviously, but I don't think Prince would have been comfortable with a gay male musical collaborator. At least one out in the open.

But Prince himself said everything he believed, he still believes.
So who knows.

Why use the term gay panic? Prince never exhibited any violent tendencies toward gay people. You lot love to just make shit up.

yes, His father was very conservative. I still wonder what his dad walked in on that made him throw Prince out though. .
. Probably not. Didn't he perform with Elton John or something? He supported George Michaels career. He was the advocate for musicians in general though.

Hard to say. This is also the period where he became very close with Hanna and Josh (less Larry G) The lyrics remind more more of a 'Pop Life'ish type of 'get yourself together' . .
Tell me how some people walk in the sun
While others just walk in the dark Lookin' at the world through the barrel of a gun Hands behind their back and a parked car America you might fair better London your sure to be toast You'll always get the dream that you deserve From what you value the most You need to fix your life up
Fix your life up Fix it up Go with the guitar is twelve times better than another crazy ... voice
Trying to be a star When you're just another brick in a misogynistic world, the noise (?) When the leaders learn how to follow And then all the people lead Instead of everybody getting what they want They can get what they need You need to fix your life up
Alright Fix your life up Fix your life up Don't worry about what the crowd does
Just worry about being good at what you love Don't make this comṗlicated You know it's true Don't make us put somebody else in for you

I would consider an ally someone who publicly states they support LGBTQ+ people. Prince never did that. 3121... Don't U Wanna Come?

When I brought up the not so positive things the Bible says about homosexuality during my celebration listening party , prince replied something like " oh...we gotta go there" and then turned it over to Larry to answer. Well Larry's answer got his music banned from my house for a year

After a silly remark acting like I was hitting on him , he went on to compare it to his time as a coke head, and a few more things that left a bad taste in my mouth( no pun intended)

Sorry you had to experience that, I wouldn’t live down such disappointment. I like his music (Larry) but I don’t care for him as a person, everytime he speaks it’s another reminder that the guy lacks sincerity.

The true disappointment was that we as a group ( me as a non-theist , A Muslim lady , and several non-JW Christians ) had just spent A few hours respectfully discussing religion with prince and to have him come in and end it on such a sour note .

That's the bible brother. They put homosexuality in the disordered thinking category. A thing you're suppose to call on God's grace to help you abstain from. It doesn't get more explicit than this.
But alot of people have tricked themselves into thinking that the road to heaven is wide and the path to hell doesn't exist.

The scripture I brought up was the whole " abomination and should be put to death " and sadly prince didn't pipe in and say that's a bit too far , instead he took the backseat and let Larry speak " the truth " [Edited 6/2/21 18:53pm] [Edited 6/2/21 19:02pm]

Oh, I was talking more about why Larry would use the analogy of drug abuse when it came to homosexuality. Then again, most people who are doing that don't view it as a negative so I can understand why the comparison would be offensive.
It's not man's place to try to say that scripture went "a bit too far". That's still Fall Of Man thinking. That humans can know better than God. That they can rule better, they can decide better and they can be Gods themselves.

Oh of course I am , I'm a non-theist 😀. But when it comes to this particular scripture , NO not ALL of your gods promises to the Jews have been fulfilled therefore all laws old and new must b kept . Jesus himself the greatest rabbi would have kept to the law . I apologize for hijacking this thread, to get back on trac . I wonder if he was playing Controversy during this time. I would find it odd if he really really disapproved of homosexuality and yet continued singing about how his past actions lead to people perceiving him as gay.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Well that's probably why Prince clammed up and Larry stepped forward. Haha.
Jesus made the new covernant at the last supper. With his death, and the Jews rejection of him as the messiah, certain things were no longer required and what was expected from humanity was elevated. Simple animal sacrifice and cutting your foreskin was no longer enough to be considered righteous. You were now expected to make yourself the living sacrifice.
But you don't have to wonder. He released Controversy (Live In Hawaii) - He never fully conformed to his religion, even at his most faithful.
