She never asked him that, when he was on the Oprah Show. Never.

That's what I'm thinking. Ain't no one asking a married man with a baby, who is known for fucking every woman in his path, if he's gay.

Bullshit thread.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

She didn’t ask if he was gay. She talked about people possibly thinking he was gay because of his image, and he said, “Whatever floats the boat.”

None of us are out here claiming Prince. I rather think most gay people are just fine with him being exactly what he professes to be. It feels more like non LGBT people are obsessed with disproving his self identification.

Today, but Outing was a big deal around then. It still might be more of a heterosexual fixation though.

Certainly, but gay people view outing other gays as a cardinal sin. Obviously there's the Perez Hiltons of the world both big and small, but still.

I don't know that Prince's aesthetic is all that weird to LGBT people. At least, none of it has ever not made sense to my eyes even as a small gay kid in the 80s.

I love reading posts like this. Even at 53, it's great to hear what I've thought about all that. Prince's dress made great sense to me as a Gen X teenager who graduated high school the year Parade came out.

I had my own versions of Prince, Boy George, and MJ outfits.

For "Beat It," I had black pants, a blue terry cloth type shirt, and a red unlined windbreaker.

For "Thriller," I wore red pants, red shoes, a black shirt, and my red windbreaker. (MJ wore a red shirt, but the double-breasted nature of the zipper made it look like a black shirt sometimes.)

For what I call the "Human Nature" look (and was actually the cover to the 7" of "Thriller" I believe), I had white pants, a white buttoned shirt, a yellow sweater vest, and one of those waffle cone textured ties in yellow.

Only at home, I had this green Derby hat I got from Six Flags. I braided strips of yarn in different colors, and fastened them inside the hat, so when I put it on, it looked like those braids he wore in his hair (often woven with pieces of silk or other fabric).

I was never attracted to Prince sexually or found him sexy. He's not ugly, he just wasn't my cup of tea. But his aesthetic was so great. The boots, the buttons on the pants...whatever. I've already talked about the jean jacket I made, inspired by SOTT.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Outing celebs and politicians was big in the 90's so that was before Perez Hilton. It was considered activism to force people with notoriety out of the closet. It lead to a lot of personalities coming out on their own terms who might not have.

There's a big difference between outing a celebrity and outing a politician. Politicians who are outer are typically anti-gay. Before or after Perez Hilton, gay people outing gay people wasn't a thing for LGBT people. If anything, there's always been a pressure to remove all visible aspects of your deviance.

Again, it's hetero people who are obsessed with revealing people's sexuality so they can promptly eviscerate them in the court of public opinion.

I love this! My older brother had lace gloves just like in The Beautiful Ones scene and he's as straight as they come. But there is something so preternatural about how some of these artists presented themselves. It's not like that too often anymore - now THAT is very strange to me.

I remember a huge thing where every guy I knew or saw wanted or was looking to buy a pair of some Cuban heeled boots. My uncle, who is about 5'2 and Filipino, had a pair. He probably wore them because he's a baby boomber and short. But he rocked those things.

I never did. I felt too tall (I'm naturally 6'). Now I'm too wide. I can't afford a fall. LOL

perhaps this too. Cause there's still countless "fans" and facebook groups that still think he was gay or bi or whatever when clearly he was neither.

Like for example, there's still think piece articles and even some presentations that talk about him trailblazing for the LGBT community and his gender bending, etc. They think he's their hero. I mean I guess that's cool but He said himself a lot of that stuff was for attention and pushing boundaries.
