Killing At the Soda Shop 5.29.1985

I actually loved this boot on first listen. I never expected what I heard all this time, until I finally heard it.

It really feels like a Parade outtake, and not just because of the strings.
the twirly vibe reminds me of Adonis & Bathseba
I love the 40s 50s setting
Has Jill Jones or Prince talked about this at all? Is it in Duane T's book?

.

See if you can fill in the lyric blanks, help the community out..

Every Friday night there's a place I used to like to hang out after school

the boys used to die over who they thought was fine

me or my girlfriend Lulu

Killing At the Soda Shop

All pushed up in a pink dyed mini dress

All the other girls were doomed

No one could tell me or Lulu

about dressing

Ice cream melted when we were in the room

Killing at the Soda Shop

Lulu had a boyfriend with a jealous heart

Who loved her...
And if she looked up...

...

He said he saw her looking at the Soda jerk

Like she wanted a real sundae

so he hit her in the eye

she started to cry

then she reached for her brothers switch blade
Killing At the Soda Shop

Killing
Killing
Killing At the Soda Shop

Everybody ran...

...

...did I scream loud

...

hey we're having some fun now

Killing At the Soda Shop

Damn was that banana shake the most

I said ....

her boyfriend followed us all the way home

for one time, glad she lived so far
Killing At the Soda Shop

Lulu left the keys to her crib on the chair (on the chair on the chair)
A man started screaming

and I saw the neighbors begin to stare (stare stare stare)

And I said to Lulu we gotta go

And we did...

Thanks God when a cop pulled us over

He saw Lulu crying
Killing At the Soda Shop

It told him the story

They let us go

....keys

Lulu's boyfriend was there
We didn't care cause Lulu and I...

Killing At the Soda Shop

I never saw so much blood

....

...get stabbed in the ear

boy was I scared

we gotta get out of here!
Lulu frozen by fear
Killing At the Soda Shop

....

...I must admit this was only a dream

Lulu would never fight over something so... as Ice Cream

Loved it when it leaked and love it now, along with Wednesday and her vocal version of Our Destiny. Wish her first album had been released earlier than ‘87, then a second album a year or two later.
There may or may not be something coming!

I could live without the orchestra parts - but an interesting idea to add strings to a 50s style rock n' roller.

The orchestra parts: they were recycled on "Graffiti Bridge", "Shake! (Boom Mix)" (apparently, according to PV), and "Face Down".

If I was a video director back then I would have a whole lot of fun with this one
