Here's my review of Duane Tudahl's book. I tried not to spoil anything, so I don't go into too much detail. Needless to say...this book is a MUST-READ!!!

Both books are amazing! I'd suggest reading the Purple Rain era book first, just to get a grasp on the way Tudahl structures things. Book 2 is better, though.

Still not got round to getting Purple rain era book. It's meant to be comprehensive, as in covers all the studio logs from that time. Can you estimate how many songs he did in the Purple Rain era?

I love the books they are great (I've read the preview chapter of the new one) - it might just be me, but the different paragraph sizes confuse me a bit. Also I usually have to skip back up to see/remind myself who is 'talking' or what the song is being discussed.

It's probably just me!

I can't imagine a better review. It's judiciously, expertly balanced, giving away just enough to make us want to read the book all the more. Your review is a splendid example of being "up to it", of an amplitude and a justness that pays tribute to its subject. It reminds me again of the effect Prince had on his entourage: in spite of of his being an imperfect person, and not able or willing to take responsibility for his failings in relationships, Prince consistently and myseriously called forth the very best in those working with him. This alone has made me a fan of your writing!

I already know what to expect now reading this *deep sigh* I bought it cause this is my favorite era studio music wise but I heard it more of the same. While it has dates and studio notes, etc it's more psychoanalyzing by people that aren't psychologists and opinions and assumptions we have to take as fact just cause "they were there"

So is there any new revelations with this book or does it just cover what we already know?

No revelations about things we don't know at this stage....just detailled info about what we know so far .....Tudahl has aggreement with The Estate....he can't reveal something he listened & saw in the Vault we don't know.....IMO ....this is shit....but this is like this !
