1999 Deluxe Video Guys is it me or that Houston video from the 1999 Deluxe is drenched in reverb and it's hard on ears because of that? Do you think reverb was added in the post production or that recording suffered from the ambient noise. Why releasing that video when u had other pro shoots with perfect sound

The sound on the 1999 DVD is terrible. It was never meant to be released. It was recorded by Prince for him to watch his performance to monitor quality....
I don't think there's much they could do with the sound... I doubt reverb was added. It's just a bad, reference tape recording that was never designed to be seen/heard by anyone other than Prince.

And which one would that be? Last year i download a pro shot that was on utub. It's the one where Prince talks about his new girl being a nurse and she wants to give him a full body exemination. When he says that the audiance is screaming and Prince replays :i mean check this body out.And at the end he says Why don't you come to my door,we don't have to do it in the bed baby we can do it on the floor. He says similar stuff on the deluxe video but there he is lind of shy. Here he is much more confident and convincing Y [Edited 3/26/21 9:06am]

It's the first I hear of that. Such a video wasn't included in the big 2013 pro shot video leak, which was -as far as I can tell- as comprehensive a collection as could be at the time. There was, however, an incomplete version of the 1999 SDE footage. . According to the late BigChick, one of the Houston shows was aired on local detroit TV channel WGPR (the same where that V6 show we have comes from), and I assumed it was the same one that got released, since at the time Prince shot most shows with a single cam, and it would have made little sense not to send the one multi-cam show to a TV channel. Unfortunately, I never got around asking BigChick for confirmation before he passed. . The existence of a pro-shot multi-cam footage of the Jan 2 show could mean either show was aired, but I'm quite surprised I've never heard of such a footage before. Does anyone have any more info? OK, so for those who read us, what you have is what I got from the 2013 leak. It was labeled as being the 1982 show so I assumed it was, but indeed there are slight differences, so that must be the 1983 show. The bootleg apparently was mislabeled. This means we'll probably never know which show was aired back in '83 A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

i don't think Prince did the extended How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore part acapella like he did on the first leg of the 1999 tour.On the second leg of the tour he added the b section feauturing full band.So the video with the great sound got to be from the early leg of the 1999 tour

Does he ever say "Houston" in it? If not, we can only trust the info we have from the bootlegers. If they got the date wrong, though, they could have had the city, too. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

I have a friend from Flint who also remembers the Controversy show from Houston 1981 also being aired on WGPR back in 1982. Apparently it was always late at night with no promotion and you just had to be lucky and catch it when these shows were aired. Big Chick also alleged that the full 2 hour 1986 Birthday show also aired in the middle of the night on WGPR back in 1986.

All I remember from that piece of crap was the picture was black most of the time, and the sound was oversaturated. Prince was a shadow in the dark. Same for Syracuse. I can't believe they dared to sell these pieces of shit, but at least it wasn't overpriced such as the SOTT SDE.

Sorry for the late reply and thx for your comment . So about Houston 1999, I'm confused: you're saying the show aired on WGPR is NOT the one from 1999 Deluxe BUT the one from the bootleg? I don't understand the reasoning behind this, though. How do u know? . As for Houston Controversy, this is the first time I hear of this, but if you trust your friend I can believe this. Thank you for this info. This one isn't in circulation, is it? . And indeed, from what I was told by BigChick and a few others, many shows by many artists were apparently aired the way you describe, and apparently artists and labels were behind this (i.e. they weren't broadcasting bootlegs). Rich also told me about the unedited Parade show, I'm quite intrigued about that one. And of course, there's the Vanity 6 footage: the source explains how he got it on YT, it came from WGPR, and Rich also confirmed that there was a razzia on these tapes by whomever could get to them when the channel got shut down (he got there too late ).
