the tale of the tape..Prince was scarred by MJ and James Brown That MJ, James Brown and Prince tape again! The infamous Prince,Michael Jackson and James Brown video where Prince
seemingly makes a fool out of himself and is clearly not in control makes me think that it's the reason that Prince has been forever sayin "On the one!" and "Gimme 2! Gimme 3!" which meshed into him sayin "on the one!" and having the band stop, which he then turned it into saying "Las Vegas!" or whatever jargon he had on his mind. Seein that pivotal performance with JB and MJ makes me wonder if that really affected Prince and left a permanent scar on him. Of course he went on to be able to outdo MJ when doin James Brown imitations etc., but it seems to have continued and stayed with him in the 80's. Before the "performance" he was synth fried punk funk and roll..then after that he introduced the JB revue style. He stopped after SOTT though. I liked it. I wouldn't have been surpised if P didn't fine his band members for their mistakes either. It's all about perfection when it comes to Prince. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

You're right RD, he keeps his band SUPER TIGHT I wonder what bugged him out more - did he trip off the performance itself or did he realize he shouldn't get high before hitting the stage?

I still say he was high that night. Plus for once he wasn't in total control. He was clearly out of his element [This message was edited Sun Apr 27 20:02:16 PDT 2003 by lovebizzare] ~KiKi

Did we watch the same Video? Because what I saw was James Brown and MJ in Awe of Prince, the look on their faces was like a little kid watching michael Jordan play, a grin on their faces just digging his groove. How you gonna get my back when you fronting.

PRINCE "MESSED UP" ON PURPOSE.HE WAS IN HIS "PUNK" MODE BACK THEN AND WHAT DO PUNK BANDS DO?THEY TEAR UP THE STAGE.PLUS,HE DIDN'T WANT TO SHOW UP TWO OF HIS BLACK MUSIC IDOLS.AND,YES,PRINCE WAS A FAN OF MICHAEL'S WHEN HE WAS YOUNGER.SO HE ACCOMPLISHED HITTING TWO BIRDS WITH ONE STONE.IT WAS PERFECT. AND AFTER THAT PERIOD PRINCE WENT ON TO GREAT SUCCESS.IT WAS KHARMA;HE CHOSE TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND THINK OF THE TWO OTHER MEN FIRST WHICH PAVED THE WAY FOR HIS VERY RAPID CLIMB TO THE TOP.
PRINCE DID MAKE IT TO THE TOP.AFTER HE MADE IT TO THE TOP HE LOST CONTROL DUE TO HIS DEEP SHYNESS.(YES,HE IS SHY AND OUTGOING AT THE SAME TIME.)THAT PERSONALITY TRAIT MADE HIM ACT IN WAYS THAT WAS LESS KHARMICALLY POSITIVE.SO THIS IS WHY WE HAVE SEEN A SALES DECLINE AND POPULARITY DECLINE. PRINCE CAN CHANGE THINGS AROUND.IF HE APPEARS ON THE JERRY LEWIS TELETHON ,DOES 15 HOURS OF COMMUNITYS ERVICE,REPEATS "CANDYMAN" 4 TIMES IN A TWO-WAY MIRROR,EATS A PLATE OF "STUFFED" CHITTERLINGS,HELPS AN OLD LADY WHO LIVES IN A SHOE ACROSS THE STREET,AND ACTUALLY REVEALS TO US WHAT THE "BATDANCE" REALLY IS...HE WILL OUTSELL EMINEM. OTHERWISE,IT'S CURTAINS,I TELLZ YA'. "I'm a pig..so,magic elixir I swill"

Although he seemed drunk/high, the only time he really looked bad IMO was when he pulled the lamp post down and he wasn't to know that wasn't securely bolted.

Get real!...prince win's hand's down to mj & jb...lmao your a damn trip...prince on his wrose night can put them to shame on there best. band stop RD - the "on the ONE" is a call to the musicians to stop on the one. I do it in my band, lots of blues musicians do it when the band is doing a freeform jam that hasn't been rehearsed. I'm not saying he didn't get it from James, I'm just saying, there's more to it than just Prince pullin on James' coat-tails. Prince is an awesome bandleader in a live scenario - that's probably what I admire most about him - watching him rearrange a song to the nth degree, on the spot, (well, I'm SURE some rehearsals took place somewheres). Same with the "gimme two, UNH!" when the band is doing a non-stop vamp, it gets boring. Calling stops and hits shows off the band's tightness and wakes up the sleepers in the crowd. Try it sometime. But yeah, he was high a a mother on that tape. HIGH. I don't care WHAT you think, HE WAS HIGH. HIGH. And I'm not talking about biblically, spiritually or aerophysically. I'm talking stoned to the bone. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

I don't understand why its so hard to believe. Princ eis known for situations having a profound effect on his music and performance etc. I mean come on. He messed up on JB and worked on it as to never be shown up again in that area imo. "Climb in my fur."
