Man, as I write this it's almost five years ago to the minute that I was told the terrible news. I had never felt so bewildered in my life.
It's been too long since you've had your ass kicked properly:

It snowed here this morning - at the very same time it snowed five years ago, at the exact moment I knew.

One thing I remember really vividly from that morning is, because of my former work as a journalist, I knew that the longer it took them to say that ambulance hadn't been called to Paisley Park for Prince, the more likely it was the ambulance had been called to Paisley Park for Prince. With each passing tick of the clock, I was more certain it was him - and it was serious. Because if it wasn't him and he was fine, they would have said so right away.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I can't believe it's been 5 years... I miss him so much. And although he will be in my heart forever, I just wish he was also still in this world...

That day, 5 years ago, I lost my best friend. The friend I never ever spoke to in person, but still he was my best friend. During hard times I was always wondering what Prince was doing, where and what he would be playing, rehearsing or recording. Looking forward to another concert, a new single or album.

The answer to that question is the same for 5 years now and will be forever.

I’ll always observe the date. Turn the music up louder. Dance a little mo’ faster. ROCK a little mo’ harder.

I'll never forget where I was that day. That said, I'm glad to have witnessed his musical ascension starting all the way back in the early 80's. I'm also glad to be the owner of many of those musical fruits.

May your soul rest peacefully........

5 whole years have passed now and I still miss him as much today as any day of the past 5 years. His music was/is the soundtrack to my life. He took me on a musical journey that I will never forget. He taught me that it's okay to take risks in life- it's how we learn and achieve better things. I am so thankful to the Powers That Be that I was alive during the same time Prince walked this Earth. I am so very thankful that he shared his music with all of us. There's never been another artist that reached into my soul like he did. May you forever be at Peace, my friend. You are missed and you are LOVED!!

I was greatly impacted by his death. Every April since, I unconsciously tend to be drawn to play more Prince than usual. This April, I have especially been drawn to the P & M concerts because it is just the most intimate way I know to experience how Prince was shortly before he died: Down to earth, relatable, adventurous, and brilliant! I still miss him.

Interesting note:

Sinead O'Connor's version of "Nothing Compares 2 U" hit Billboard's Hot 100 #1 on - wait for it - April 21, 1990.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Damn, that question "is time really a trick?" is extra meaningful considering I just watched Purple Rain from Rave Un2 the Year 2000!

I do believe time is a construct. Time could've been anything. It could've been blurks instead of hours, aurcroqs instead of minutes. Who says one rotation is a day? And that seconds should be such'n'such apart to make up this or that? That's just what we've been told, but it doesn't mean that's what it is.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I said it in April 2016 and I’ll say it again now - the single most talented music artist of his generation or any generation since. No one can touch him in all round musical talent and originality. The one, the only ... Prince!!! cool

After all these years (Dirty Mind for me), Prince still amazes me. What other artists can you still find unearthed musical Gems after 43 years of recorded music? His Legacy as an artist is truly uniquely empowering and rewarding.

33 days before 21 April I began to post on Facebook a link to a Prince song every day, telling why that song was important for me and why I loved it. If someone is interested simonigga has posted today all the posts and songs together on his site (in italian language).

Thank you so much for the kind words. It conjures so many emotions for me of that weekend as well. Not that Prince was any different than any other icon but it was espeically good to see so much community around one person.
