Doubt you can guess any of Prince's "deep cuts" recommended by Billboard.

This has been a serious year and for some a hard time of year given the anniversary date. Billboard just put out an article on 15 recommended deep cuts by Prince.

Here is a fun but meaningless challenge

Before hitting the link, think of 5 possible deep cuts that may have been recommended. Then, check the link to see what they listed. I doubt if anyone here will get more than one. If you did guess any right, please post below what the correct guess was and why you thought it would be there. Feel free to post other reactions to the list as well.

If you want to try, please don't scroll to other posts until you have made your guesses.

Nada on my 5 picks, but do like their list, challenging as so many songs, so many well regarded

Deep cuts for Prince can be so varied. But that list really isn't bad. Some b-sides, some album cuts. Some politics, some sex, some fiction.

Off the top of my head, here's 10 deep cuts I'd throw at the general public:

  1. Jack U Off
  2. Something In The Water
  3. Just As Long As We're Together
  4. Vagina
  5. Life Can Be So Nice (even though it's one of my least favorite 80s tracks. fite me)
  6. Dance On
  7. La La La, He, He, Hee
  8. Escape
  9. Return Of The Bump Squad
  10. Big City

"That's it."

i think SAIMH will be there, as well as Joy In Repetition, The Question of U and Anna Stesia, maybe Anne Christian, And God Created Woman, Fury, Bambi, Wasted Kisses, Pheremone. Let me go see, i can't take the suspense.

Yes, in my opinion they went really deep, especially for a publication like Billboard. I imagine most of the readers wouldn not have been familiar with songs heralded on the org but not known by the masses such as Joy In Repetition and a few dozen others. So, it was quite surprise that they went so deep including some songs that would be in my bottom half of his songs from the studio albums.

Telling a god-fearing gay man that he is the king of the underworld he is surely destined for is actually really sweet for the org.

Dig U Better Dead??? That is seriously one of the weakest things he ever recorded. A "deep cut"? Hardly.

It’s fun to think some independent writer was digging deep and having fun but these articles with their lists seem more like paid advertisements from the estate and considering pay to play was the standard for radio decades ago no doubt these articles work the same way .. as if any long time p fan would ever recommend some of this crap over the hundreds of greater deep cuts .. kudos for trying to revive the Sony catalog but clearly some executives not fans involved

The list is great so idk why you think the cuts aren't deep enough. They are pretty deep regardless if they're our faves.

That said, I hope they pay for more of these articles then because I'm tired of my well-meaning friends talking about the same ass 5 songs ever.

I got Pheromone. People love pointing at Pheromone.

I also guessed Future Soul Song, Just as Long as We're Together, Endorphinmachine, and Girl.

Actually, that's a pretty good representation of deep cuts! I enjoyed reading this and it brought happy memories of a trip to Lavaux a few years ago. I could hear that song in my head all day and especially after sampling the wine! Great song, tragically overlooked.
Billy Jack Bitch is also a great choice and Gotta Stop Messin Around has that authentic new wave brilliance 👍👍😎✌🎹

COME is such a great, dark record. "Phermone" displays a real struggle with the narrator.
