Estate - Duane - Mike Howe - Please Read I will assume that the promo (60 Min) that the new package is getting is due to Sony. I don't recall the far more deserving SOTT set (and 1999) getting this kind of treatment. I'm very happy nonetheless and very encouraged by the news of his preorders and sales generally being boosted by the spot. Excellent. I am also happy to see the focus move from the 80s to more recent times. Having said that, please consider the following that i am doubting any marketing team could know unless they were major Prince fans.
Most of us long timers are surely in their early 40s onwards. Most probably won't think twice about buying practically anything new that the estate releases. This includes Super Deluxe box sets or remasters by themselves. With their being only a finite amount of money to extract from us, re releases with no other value (no remaster, no new songs) are likely to be ignored by the long timers. We already have all that. What I am suggesting is you not limit releases to 2 or 3 a year. I suggest you start releaseing remasters of all his output Single releases (or box) of his associated artists...Jill Jones, Madhouses, Sheila's albums, Family etc. Get it out there...no need to wait. I doubt people who don't know these albums already will rush out to buy them.
I also hope you stick to WB's box set format....an excellent remaster, vault tracks from the period, a live album and live video. I hope you put more effort in making the video look better and put the same efforts into the remaster - SOTT is an a absolute KILLER job. 1999 was good too.
We're all getting older and I see that you only have 10-15 years (at most) to make the money.
Finally, I do hope you do something Prince would not have....use the Pixar, DIsney and other companies to reach the kids with his music. Allow his music to be used by directors....this guy was one of the best songsmiths ever. Inserting a 'good bye' into a scene in a Pixar movie or 'She Gave Her Angels' into a DIsney animation would do great things for the estate.

they're gonna do what they wanna do and what they wanna do is whatever gets them the most money in the right now while also having lots left to release in the coming 5,000 years so that they can get money in the then too.

. Why limit to absolute numbers? They can never release all that stuff in our times. Do not hold back! .
. Not all of us think like this. 1999 was censored. SOTT had `the book`, some edits vs full versions, etc. No understanding of SOTT was evident in this release. Every SDE was a standalone project. No consistency.

I think the Prince Estate is doing a great job.
Nevertheless, i indeed would like to see more releases each year especially box sets by associated artists including the original versions by Prince.
Imagine a Sheila E or The Time box sets remastered with the Prince versions for each album. That would be awesome.

No, can't agree with all of this.
I agree with basically 'release more'....yes, of course... but saying that nobody wants standard re-releases of Prince's albums is not true.... I want them, for one.
I want proper, standard releases on vinyl of every Prince/NPG album.
Release Newpower Soul with no extras, just well mastered on good quality vinyl... YES! I want that!
THe same with NEWS, C-NOTE, XPECTATION... all of them!
At the SAME TIME, however, they could be getting these out there, while also doing their thing with the special editions and all that.
And, while it may make them some more money, I think the 'go Pixar' recommendation is an odd one.
Nobody needs to hear Prince music in every new kids' movie.... and I've never understood this weird evangelical thing of pushing Prince's music on others because 'we need everyone to like Prince!'....
I don't need everyone to like Prince. I don't care who else likes Prince. If someone's going to discover and like him, they will of their own accord, just like I did.
This evangelical approach is kind of cultish, and pretty weird.

Agree about the paragraphs but in their defence it wasn't their fault, it is the org's fault. If you hit reply with quote you'll see that there are line breaks. RIP

I don't want any of the associated artists stuff before the Prince stuff so just no to that! Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

Okay, so, this is the biggest mindfuck ever right now. Is Duane still alive? Like, I was always under the impression that he died? I also clearly remember reading this at the org.
Is this the duane nelson people are talking about here??

EDIT: Okay, i just read duane's family claimed a piece of the estate. But holy hell this thread title is kinda misleading. [Edited 4/16/21 4:11am]
