It's actually 36 mins but great interview. To name Purple Rain his "desert island disc" over all the other blues tracks he named which are arguably his biggest influences is pretty cool. [Edited 4/10/21 7:24am]

Eric: a reincarnation of Little Richard, Jimi Hendrix and James Brown in one, a genius. . Miles in this video: an amalgam of James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, Mavin Gaye and Charlie Chaplin. "And he combines all that all the time.... How can you mess with that"? Miles Davis "Prince sur s... - YouTube . And yet the OP started a thread claiming that Prince is overrated.

i have a love and hate relationship with Eric as a guitar player. Clapton adored Hendrix because how Eric played on Beano album https://www.youtube.com/w...amp;t=135s he was playing loud with fire and here was the start of creating heavier guitar sound that opened the door for Jimi,Black Sabbath and many others.
He was playing great when he was in Cream but my favourite guitar playing by Eric is on the Deric and The Dominoes live at Fillmore East 1970. exibit a : https://www.youtube.com/w...0L6r0Sk91I on this song and on this whole concert Eric played like i never heard him before or after .amazing playing. But after 1971 he locked himself in his room taking dope and selling his guitars.he return as a changed man ,his playing and his albums were terrible in the 70's and the begining of the 80s but when Phil Colins took Clapton under his wing something happend and Eric changed. his guitar become loud, melodic and very proccessed. he was using effects such as chorus, delay, metal zone distortion and he had some booster added to his guitar. this is one example where Eric shines in the 80s with great playing, great sound : https://www.youtube.com/w...7qFkPRnKwk
this phase was lasting until 1991. Wish It Would Rain Down (it sounds lke Prince ) https://www.youtube.com/w...ZAkqukvfSE
the one of my favourite from the 80s Grand Illusion killer solos https://www.youtube.com/w...Qy7iJMU8kc
After his kid died i guess he went into period of depression and his playing suffered as well. But around 2001 a new change Eric Clapton gets a young girlfriend ,wife 34 years his junior. i guess that ignite some fire in his playing https://www.youtube.com/w...ocDpFVhyDw
here as well https://www.youtube.com/w..._eiCcX263Y and that lasted until 2012,asfter that Clapton just got older And yes Jimi was a much better guitar player than Eric.Jimi was the leader and Eric was the follower.

I love Jimi Hendrix and I love Eric Clapton but they are two different guitar players. Hendrix was very soulful and played with emotion as his driver. "Machine Gun" being the first example I can think of. He did a lot of things that were never done before and so that's why he's always at the top of any guitar list. Hendrix is never spoken of as a great lyricist; prime examples being Little Wing and Bold As Love.
Clapton plays with more skill and proficiency. He can be flashy without being over the top unless he needs to. That's why he was often a sideman whether it was for George Harrison or Bonnie and Delaney.
Comparing the two however is kind of false considering there was mutual admiration between the two.

u're welcome well i like his 80s albums because there is pop rock, funky, disco all kind of stuff so not typical for Eric.there is even a Michael Jackson connection .Yellow Magic Orchestra made a song i think in 1979 or 1980 Behind The Mask,it was an instrumental except for some vocodor bits.Anyway Michael liked the song and he wrote vocal melody and lyrics,it was meant to be on Thriller but it didn't happen. first version released in arragement similar to Michaels version was released by Greg Phillignes in 1984 or 1985.Eric Clapton recorded Michaels version.here you go https://www.youtube.com/w..._xMJscsw7w Jackson version was released in 2009 .it had great vocals but it was over produced imo.

Jackson version was released in 2009 .it had great vocals but it was over produced imo. [/quote]If I remember correctly, that 2009 version is a redone version that was produced by John McClain
