- Didn't he also mentioned in that time span, that he was going to retire from recording ? I even believe he said it a few times even (It's all so long ago). Come to think of it, whatever he said back the, had some truth in it. -

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

700-800 songs in the vault in 1985 according to an authoritative source. The world's problems like climate change can only be solved through strategic long-term thinking, not expediency. In other words all the govts. need sacking!

Certainly not finished unique songs...maybe counting all the live recordings and rehearsals and jams and the like... "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

June 8 1986 (the morning after the birthday show) and he gave a number of songs in the vault and it was like 320? Or something...the audio should be easy this find...of course even if that wass true at least 50 of those have since been released. "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

8,000 songs sounds like a crazy number, but it's not unfeasable. If he hit his song-a-day goal for just 30 out of his 37 year professional recording career, that's 10,950 songs. That would exclude an entire 7 years of professional recording. We can presume there were days when he didn't record a song, but we also know for a fact that there were days when multiple songs were recorded. The longer he recorded, the more efficient he became. I'm not saying all 8,000 songs would sound like completely different and unique creations, but the number isn't so hard to believe considering Prince's obsession with creating music. At the end of the day I don't think we will know how many songs he had, I do think what he said about not finishing songs is true, I have a feeling there are quite a bit incomplete things for sure and just as many finished ones. I think there's a ton of stuff with protégés and I have no clue if any of that will ever come out, I mean we can't even get digital releases for vanity or Jill or Apollonia so I don't put too much hope in that. Shelby J did a great job...good eye contact and very poised. I think Morris H was a bit out of his depth.

Sounds like Prince loved music more than women.I know he was ladies man and all but wow 8,000 songs???? I wouldn't doubt it.After all he did have his own studio he could record anytime he wanted.

I'm not surprised about 8000 songs. Prince recorded around 200 songs with 3rdEyeGirl so he was always making new music. Welcome 2 The Dawn

I mean, what changes would you have made to the segment to enhance it if I may ask? I thought it was fine personally, it highlighted the context behind the album, who is on it, and why it didn't come out at the time of recording while highlighting Prince's work ethic. [Edited 4/12/21 19:46pm]
